6-8" new on the ground at Stowe today, reported by my roommates. More for tomorrow

Well, just read the full thread. I'll most likely be there Friday morning, Saturday, and Sunday. Each day I'll be driving from Burlington, so if anyone is staying around there or needs a ride from the town of Stowe to the mountain, I can help taxi.

I'd be happy to help show people around. Woods have been sketchy lately- but conditions are improving. THINK SNOW!

edit- there's also night skiing via the Gondola on Thur, Fri, Sat nights.

Since I will be skiing with my friend Joe this weekend, I will see if his wife's band is playing in the Stowe area the weekend of the Summit. I know they play the Matterhorn with some frequency. If they are playing, I'll see if I can get them to get maggots in for free.

Hey, I'm still in but only for Sunday. My kiddo has a race on Saturday.

Would love to come up Sat. after the race for hanging out but still have to secure lodging. Gravity, where is your family staying?

    Yippie!!

Condo reservations booked I'll be up there Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. Somebody mentioned that Stowe has night skiing Friday nights? Is there a 1/2 day/night ticket? Like a 4 hour ticket that some mountains offer?
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

sheeeet, i forgot about the summit, I guess my broke ass can still come... I remember hearing about someone driving up from n. Va, Washington, baltimore. If that is still happening and you want to carpool let me know, or if anyone else around wants a ride i should be able to help.

Some tips on a cheap place to stay, some that still wants to split a room? a couch maybe? (I see above posts, and if anyone still needs someone to split with let me know about the prices. I need to get a round trip figure together to ensure I can come up with the money and get off work, but it shouldent be a problem)

    anything else I'm missing??

thanks in advance for your help, I will keep looking over the thread to see what has been posted and get caught up

Add another to the list, I'm in. I have a pass at Stowe and know the terrain around the Notch well, but don't forget my heels are free and I do what I need to to get to the snow. With a bit of motivation the area can almost always deliver given cooperation from the weather and a little work, but I'm sure a few of you know this already. Things are filling in and the woods are starting to get good. If housing becomes a problem I have a bunch of floor and some doggy couches on the other side of the Notch, only catch is Sat and sunday I work nights till about 10:00ish.

    sequoiashan et al....

I'd like to do some touring into the notch, however my BC/Avie skills are lacking. And with the recent loss up there, I'm not so sure that I'm really ready to step out there without those kinds of skills. Are their any more experienced maggots who would be willing to take a couple of jongs out and show us the ropes?

Plenty of lines in the Notch with less exposure, don't worry I wouldn't think about leading anyone out that way especially those who I have never seen make a turn. But my thoughts on the tragic accident was that is was an accident. It could have happened almost anywhere, even close to the boundaries.

Very true. It takes a pretty solid effort to get to dangerous areas.

I'm trying to get that whole weekend off, and I'd be happy to ski around and give some tours. We'll ski around in bounds and some of the more accessible woods, assess group dynamics, and then start getting more adventurous.

its likely we will want to ski in several groups, so as not to loose people.

taking a group of fifteen out to the benches could be a full on shit show.

Small groups are the only way to ski in the woods. In a crew 15 deep I would not want to be anywhere near the back of the pack, entire lines would be tracked in a single shot. But rest assured if the weather cooperates there is plenty to go around, we got the light side, the dark side and we could even hit up the Underhill side with a shuttle waiting at the bottom. And conditions update after a few laps in the Notch this morning: well we got a great base to work with, what was full on pow has morphed into a layer of frozen over mashed potatoes with some wind blow on top. All in all not too bad, damn fine improvement over the first part of the season. The chin is looking well plastered as well, but the ol' blackout is coming so I'm at Smuggs or on skins bound for the next week.
