Interesting... Where & when is the plan?

BumZ, Powho and I are planning something, but not into heading out early if it's dumping. (We're not barneys, but we're also not super-qualified to make strong stability assessments.)

It's looking more like a brunch patrol this time around.

Just curious: What is a patrol? (I can figure out the dawn part.)

Are you just going out to ski, but requiring some hiking up?
Or, are you actually patrolling? And if so, what?

I imagine snow conditions, and that your job is Av Control.
Or, I could be entirely wrong.

Sorry if that sounds stupid, but this is bugging me.

Dawn patrol is anything before noon in the Wasatch. Since that is all the time you need to get things done.

Otherwise know as the Wasatch Alpine Start.

Dawn Patrol is a term popularized by this book. It technically refers to early morning (around 4 am) touring departures that put you on the ridgeline around sunrise. It's use has been broadened to include any early morning start, even if only leaving the TH at sunrise.

    Thanks for that explanation.
Figured there was more to it.

Book looks good. If I lived there, I'd get one.

Similar guides exist here as well.

So did this go down or not?

    If so, how was it?

I am new to Utah and Utah skiing, so I'd like to find good places to BC.

    Thanks
    -Thomas
