I'm in. Stowe last weekend of February. It's a plan. It SHOULD be good conditions then (as good a probability as you're going to get in New England). </unjinx>

Unless people are going to be out west or in Europe, there's no reason they shouldn't be able to make this. It's the height of ski season. I don't wanna hear any "some people have jobs" crap. You're a pushover if you can't work it out with your manager to have time to ski during the height of ski season.

On a side note, let's start getting some other ideas rolling. Anyone interested in a trip to the Eastern Townships during President's Day Weekend?

Thumbs up 2005 EC Mini Thread!

It's going to happen this year...but when and where?

I suggest last weekend in Jan b/c there is apt to be snow!

    As to location...

I know that Jay Peak is awesome, and I've never been there, and I'd like to go there. But it's a bit far off. If it is decided to go far north, I will make the trek. But would anyone consider (gulp) Killington?
    :::ducking tomatoes and rotten eggs:::

There is of course the dear and unspoiled Plattekill NY. Course I'm partial b/c it's close to me.

    What say youse?

I made it to K the 2nd weekend they were open last year & tried to get there 3 more times to hook up with folks, but failed miserably.

I'm IN this year. Wherever, whenever.

I wouldn't do Plattekill because it's pretty much 1 day then done, so you have to hit it when it's snowing. But, I'm not from the east and won't be attending, so...

Yes, it must happen. A mega mini I say. With this film project that Lane is championing, I'd say we have no excuse not to get our asses in gear and make this work.

As much as I love Jay, I'd say we all start putting money aside now and go for Stowe. Seems to me that would offer some of the best that the East can offer: glades, hikes, open areas, guides, relatively accessable etc.

As for dates, I'd go more for the end of Feb. Don't know what history shows, but end of Jan might be awkward for Jackson summiters.

    Thumbs up

I second the end of January/early February, something like the 28th-2nd maybe? I personally will be able to attend at least 2 or 3 of the days during that time, and I know how much you all want to ski with me.

Who says the EC Mini has to take place at only one resort? Why not do a day at Jay, one at MRG/Bush, a Smuggs/Stowe day, and if it dumps, maybe a day at Hickory Hill outside Warrensbug, NY. There are so many possibilites within 3 or so hours of Boston/Albany.

Another idea, how about a less formal thing, agree on a time period, and just have roll calls posted for specific resorts the day or two before, so that there might be groups of maggots at different resorts every day. That seems the most feasinle given how spread out the EC crew is. Just my $0.02

With my work schedule it is hard for me to travel very far for a mini. But anything in N. Vt I'd be in for. And if anyone wants to meet up at Plattekill over Christmas I'll be around visiting my parents. P-kill is my old stomping grounds hopefully they open before 05' this year.

its going to be at stowe this year. i'm calling it.

and the different place on different days doesn't really work, or at least not last year. i don't think any of the same people were at MRG that went to kmart. If you give the flakey EC maggots too much choice they just choose whats closer/eaier. the point is to meet as manny mags as possible and ski with them, not set up three days at three hills with three totally different groups. that happens every weekend anyways.

if you all want to have a half assed ec gathering for the third year in a row go for it. i'd rather make a plan and try and stick to it. (deep down i know that most will bail by the time it goes down, as is the way of the EC summit)

I'll be checking out VT on the weekend of the 19th of November or earlier snow permitting. SugarBush or K-Rock Sat or Sun. ???

Wherever it is I'll do my best to make it. When is the glade/chute bash at Jay? That might be a good time to be there. If it's going to be a midweek thing we don't need to plan too far out, just wait until we know where the snow will be the best at that point.

I'll be more than happy to host a few EC mini-summit gatherings at my place in southern VT to all house broken maggots. I can't support the entire EC maggot colony but it does sleep 10 with comfort.

I was going to suggest the weekend of Dec 18th/19th for the first of many (if snow is availalbe). My place is 10 minutes from Magic, 45 minutes to Kmart, a little over an hour to MRG and 2 1/2 to Jay.

Any non-holiday weekend works for me. All we need now is a little snow. Hey left coasters - send some of that early season stoke our way.

That's two for Stowe and basom called it! That's settled then.

    On to the dates.

I agree with this. I propose the last weekend of February (26 & 27). I'm willing to roll the dice on weather and commit and the earlier others can, the better shape we will be in.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and I thought the first EC summit was closer to 3/4 assed),

It was okay, although I'm not sure that the days can classify as mini (maybe mini-mini's). It was the second time that I'd been to Vermont and I wanted to explore.

Neither supporting or not supporting, but like you say, it's going to be hard to get people to go to different hills especially if they're going to have to buy tickets (as opposed to having a pass at their hill). I won't be out there, so it doesn't make a difference to me.

Hey, that's nice of you to offer elevens.

Basom is right...we should just pick a place and go w/ it. Stowe sounds good to me. I've never been there and am anxious to check it out. End of Feb. is do-able too.

I think we will probably have some smaller gatherings throughout the season. We should make it a point to post up roll calls here.

Hopefully the one official EC "mini" can be well-attended this year. Hey, if the Sox pull off that win...we can pull off a good mini!

FWIW - You ever seen those Southwest Airlines "Wanna get away?" commercials?

I just dumped the entire contents - meaning ALL - of a steaming hot cup of coffee / hot chocolate.

You see, I was merely stirring the coffee. Then the phone rang. In what I can ONLY refer to as a Tourets-like response to the ringing telephone, I made some movement which I cannot clearly define. It was as if I was half asleep & dreamt I was about to get hit by a truck.

So I flail a now well-stirred cup of coffee into the air. It first bounces off my outstretched hands because I figure "Hey - hot coffee! Catch it!

As I'm screaming because of my newly burned hands, the cup bounces off my thigh, and dances across my entire desk in true Broadway fashion. From right to left: Digital phone, mouse, PC, monitor, keyboard, desk return. ALL of my notes for the day are now covered in a sticky brown, semi-viscous sludge. I do not know whether they can be recovered. My keyboard now has that "Fresh from the factory!" tack on all of the keys, but alas - I know the difference between "fresh from the factory" and the fact that I'm a fucking moron.

I used an entire Industrial roll of hand towels to clean everything up off the floor, 16 packs of electronics wet-naps and 10 packs of pads.

Yes, I want to get away. Right fucking now.

I'd be down for stowe 2/26-27. Can't make it til the eve of the 26th, but I'd probably stay monday 2/28, too. Last year stowe was giving a 50% discount for any visiting ski patrollers-they might offer it for other area-shop staff too.
