Red face How do I rotate video footage?

So I shot a bunch of helmet cam footage today at Kirkwood with my VIO, and as I go back to watch the raw clips, I realize that my helmet cam was rotated roughy 90 degrees or so for like every shot.

the only video editing software I have is Windows Movie Maker.

Does anyone know if it's possible to 'rotate' the footage? Kinda like a photo?

I think windows movie maker has rotate in the special effects. If not virtualdub is free and will have it in the filters
If you french fry when you pizza you're going to have a bad time.

you can do it in apple's iMovie (there's a "rotate" icon when you put the video in the (sort of) timeline). if you don't have imovie i can rotate it for you using mencoder if you send me a PM with the link to the clip.

cool, thanks guys...I got it now.

jla415 -- you are correct. 'Special Effects' has the special sauce for rotating 90 and 180 degrees in Windows Movie Maker. It won't be perfect, but at least now it will be watchable Thanks dude.

    Yep no problem

just fyi virtualdubs "rotate2" filter will let you choose any angle, not just 90/180

and obviously you will now have a weird set of black bars on the side of your video. If you don't care about full res size I would flip it, put it into a small comp and make it full frame so it fills the aspect ratio. Not a big deal if you aren't caring about HD and plan on putting it small size on the web.

EDIT - and I didn't see it was a vio. Obviously it wasn't HD... my bad.

It's not HD, but its still widescreen footage, so you're right.

The original VIO POV.1 didn't originally come standard with a wide angle lens (there was a model though), however, that got switched at some point last year or in late '08. From their website and a screenshot of my own footage:

    Resolutions: 720x480, 720x400, 640x480, 360x240

On the PC you can rotate it using Movie Maker, you will then need to export it as a new video before uploding. On Mac, iMovie is vedio edting software but It does not have that function, but, QuickTimePro does. Next time hold the camera in the right orientation.
