Might need to join BSS at FKNA v.2 (yeah, I think that is one and the same - unless v.2 is Dookey's camp). Nice and warm down there.

There is also another location a bit further down the loop toward 395.

I wasn't a big fan of last year's camp: a long way from town and too close to the highway (traffic noise). But if the loop is snowed in, well...

So, who will be rocking the longboards? I have a pair of 210cm lined up, but I am concerned that they may not be long enough.

Which means that I need a monoski ...

    Mammoth Mtn Lift Tickets

a co-worker of mine has a few (3 or 4) lift tickets/1-day passes for mammoth mtn, and is looking to sell them for $40 each.

UPDATE 5/05/10 12:45pm (Mammy time): all tix are spoken for. no more tix/passes available, unless those w/ dibs bail.

i thought i'd pass his offer along to anyone interested in this thread (as opposed to posting in gear swap). PM me, and i'll forward the contact info.

fkna! i was looking fwd to meeting some mags in my first mini, as well as offering up couch or floor space to anyone interested, but just realized that i'm gonna be out of town for this one...

Believe, I've tried very hard to find some Fischer C4's but I can't find them anywhere.

Also, the only long skis on eBay are relatively new ...

    GPS?

You should have a chat with Sinecure or CDLV. They seem pretty good at finding the campsite.
If you have GPS, they prolly have the co-ordinates, and what-not.

powdork, you should just stream your helmet-cam as you wander around Mammoth. Then when you're in the right spot, someone can call your cell and tell you to stop wandering and set up camp!

Mammoth has a deal right now if you buy 4 tickets (must all be used by one person) you get them for $199 and it comes with a free pair of Dodgers tickets. I dislike the Dodgers almost as much as the Yankees, but figured there are probably a few SoCal folks who might find that offer interesting.

    Here's a link:

Free Dodger Tix and $50-day tix

Powdork, there will be others showing up on Thursday. Myself included. Although I'm not sure how early. I have to take my son to get his learner's permit in the morning so I won't be leaving the bay area before lunchtime and I doubt that Tioga pass is going to be open.

Finding Fort FKNA isn't hard. The real question is what the snow situation is going to be and whether we'll be able to use any of the sites along the Scenic Loop Rd. I'm guessing that the sites closer to the 395 end of the Loop Rd are less likely to be snowy. But if we're going to stay down there, it almost makes sense to use the place across 395, just off 203.

On This Google Map the place we used last year is noted as "Fort FKNA II" and the one BSS refers to is labeled Alternate Fort FKNA.

Still 2-3ft of snow @ FKNA this morning, nothing accessible more than 20yd or so anywhere off scenic loop road all the way out to 395.

    Powdork:

Traditionally speaking Ottime and I have been getting there Thurs and skiing the resort, then skinning on Fri, then the resort on Sat and then skinning on Sun. At least that's what we did last year...

I'm up for a similar scenario this year.

As for FKNA v. 2, I get confused. There's the spot down by the power plant (BSS's spot) and then Ft. Dookey, which is around the bend from the original FKNA, which if that is covered in snow then getting into Ft. Dookey will be tough (especially w/o 4wd and a large clearance).

I'm cool with whatever...and wait til y'all taste my 3 pepper chocolate and the new, improved ginger cookies.

Currently in Summit County with bklyn and it's bluebird with wind, so looking forward to some actual warm, REAL spring skiing back on the home front.

Is there any open camp sites out Sherwin rd. past the Sherwin bar? That area is more open and gets more sun and less snow. That area is closer to town and one can stagger drunkenly to/from Roberto's from there.

Looks like I'm out. The Mom will be out of town, which means I'm a single dad. I'm thinking that the mini isn't terribly likely to be kid-friendly.

Last year Sinecure and El Chupa set up a "kids kamp" down the road from FKNA so as to shield the younguns from the debauchery (though we were rather debaucherless last year what with Poser and Schralph and Squirrel Murph being absent)

According to Wikipedia "the monoski is in the midst of a revival within the past five years due to an infusion of new technology and new techniques such as twin tips, carvings, fat boards and monoboard, especially in Chamonix, France, and Mammoth Mountain, USA."

So, this being the Mammoth Mini thread I was hoping for some pointers on where to buy one of those beauties.

I tried eBay, but there's nothing there:

Sherwin's has been closed for a while now, but that whole area past the corrals, near mammoth creek is still within the municipal boundaries of Mammoth Lakes (proper). Which is just begging for a problem.

    IMO

I will be up Thurs. Night and staying the whole week after. I have 6 bring a friend available. I will be up this weekend as well if anyone is around let's ride.
Thinking I'm gonna bring some great pork and beef products but I will leave the sides up to others. I'm thinking Nueske's Slab Bacon, Pork Belly, and Prime Rib smoked and roasted to perfection. Sunday beach bbq right?

I'm planning to leave from KW early early Thursday morning. Not sure yet: resort, VA lakes, Tioga?
