Arrow Another "Closing Day" Option For Youse Mammy Mags

Kirkwood is planning on opening 7/2 to 7/4.
So if you fancy a change of terrain, and a chance to see Tahoe, and it's Maggots, head on up. You could even show off your racing steeze...

    The BIG Weekend
Celebrate the Fourth of July Kirkwood-style this year, complete with a fireworks show! Chairs 1 and 2 will turn on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm and on Sunday from 8am to 4pm. Chair 6 will operate on Sunday as well from 10am to 2pm. The mountain will be opening for skiing/riding access via the three open lifts and hiking is permitted. Full day adult tickets are $32 for skiing, riding, or mountain biking and half day tickets (begins at 12:30pm) are $22. Pricing varies across other age groups.

Perhaps a bunch of fast-skiing Mags could make a showing in the Avalanche Cup?

Interesting. One of the twins starts camp on July 4, north of Tahoe. Might be able to ski 7/3, stay in Alpine Meadows or Tahoe Donner, then drive the rest of the way on July 4.

Having never skied Kirkwood (I know, I know), would it be worth it for just chairs 1 and 2?

Not even. And how a race out of Thunder Saddle is achievable from Chair 2 without hiking Vista must entail some cryptic traverse that defies gravity.

And the consistent flatness from the top to the bottom of Chair 1 should make for some good hiking. Barely skiable on cold snow, let alone July snow.

You need to think of Chair 2 as an access point. Hike up over Vista and along the ridge. There is snow from the top of 2 to the bottom with a short traverse under Vista, but I expect that to burn out in the next three weeks.

We were out that way yesterday and the cirque & hells were both skiing quite nicely. The only problem is that we skinned from the parking lot at 9am, in June, on a cold and very windy morning. The 10am start time is an issue.

Chair 6 might be fun on Sunday.

They are basically opening their bike park and letting you bring on skis. It would be nice if they would either run 6 starting at 8am or ran chair 10 or 11 as well. Plenty of snow on that side of the hill for sure.
