I once had a zit that was so freakin big I gave it a name. Al I called it. We became good friends. And as Al matured into a bloated version of his former self, I knew our friendship was doomed. So I took the only action I deemed appropriate. I popped that beyatch. Al's final moments were spectacular. And if I might paraphrase the Violent Femmes, Al went out like a mother f’in blister in the sun. My time with Al ended too quickly. But I will always have this impressive scar on my nose as a remembrance of a friend who lived by the motto, “Live fast. Die young.” Al, I hardly knew yee.Originally Posted by FNG

Sorry FNG, with the new "Smiles" and all I couldn't pass it up. I'll actually be in St. Paul over Thanksgiving. We should maybe grab a brew somewhere around St. Thomas since there are extremely hot girls around that part.![]()
Ditch the topic. Very good idea.
I'm a logistic dude... (in the sense that the majority of my academic attributes lie in logistic subject matters, i.e. science and math--this is not to say that I am a logistic person who acts logically) not so much creative. That's what I find hard about the whole process: creating. I'll figure something out.
I'm glad we had this discussion (and am extremely surprised that no one went completely out of hand, calling me a total fucking moron or something...) because I didn't know whether to be honest and pick what I would actually do as my "intellectual adventure" or if I should just make up something "creative." Apparently the latter is the right answer.
One more thing. Should I downplay the fact that I ski, not just not center on it? I'm starting to wonder if these guys look at an application and go "oh great, another asshole who wants to use our campus as a base for skiing," once they know I ski. Or do they embrace that I want to be part of that culture? This really has nothing to do with my paper, I'm just curious what those people probably think...
No more input is needed, though it would be nice to get some. Thanks for the help, guys.
Oh, and for the record, I take full credit for my lexicon...
Edit: just a thought here, but how unoriginal is a class in ski construction? it is relevant to my career path as a "high tech carpenter" and strikes my fancy. Not creative? Nevermind...![]()

Avoid employing unlucky people - throw half of the pile of resume's in the bin without reading them.
So sorry to interrupt the great stoke-like vibe here, but I have a new, radically different draft to my original essay. How bad does it suck?
Edit: I have been falsely encouraged my first 11 years of school and have realized in my 12th that I am a bad writer.
The end, yay!

You had me at "excursion of intellect."
Had me wanting to punch you in the throat, that is.
Good luck.
yeah, change it to "intellectual excursion".Originally Posted by phUnk

As a CC graduate I think you're kinda immature and you'd fail there. And that's only the opinion of one man so don't go fucking crying about it or anything. Just consider why I might think that about you and go write your fucking essay already.
Now I'll go stand in line for my turn to punch you in the throat.
That sounds like editor-talk to me.Originally Posted by Tyrone Shoelaces

That is really quite poor (both tries). Neither the concept nor the writing are at all inspiring. Schools want to know something about you as a person. What do you have to give to them? Try again and don't suck.
tell them how your parents are loaded and are ready to cut a check for all 4(or maybe in your case 6) years of tuition up front. I am sure that will get their attention.
funny shit right there.Originally Posted by Foggy_Goggles

Also tell them that you climb buildings and crush ice with you bare hands. That should help.Originally Posted by rip

Bummer dooood. I'm out of ideas. Tough shit, huh?
Funny they say to "describe what you would do," yet there is a right answer...

A couple weak ass ideas and you're done?! You're fucked for college, and you haven't even made it out of high school yet. When you're ready to step up to the big leagues of bullshitters, come back.Originally Posted by Max Gosey

You need to brainstorm some more ideas and extrapolations. Example - you like skiing. There are several plays on skiing - materials used in ski equipment (or in sporting goods in general). How might nanotechnology effect ski equipment etc.. etc... Then outline each idea you might find that one outline grows into something workable. As a product development manager, I can't begin to tell you how many ideas make it to the garbage before you find a good one that works.Originally Posted by Max Gosey

OK. So Presumably you still want to study snow science. That's still seems like a pretty narrow topic for an undergrad degree, but it would fall under the CC Enviromental Science Program. Their mission statement: "The Colorado College Enviromental Science Program prepares its majors to understand their connections to their enviroments, acquire the scientific skiils to explore interrelationships in the global ecosystem, and pursue interdisciplinary approaches of problem solution."
The ideal candidate's essay would address or touch on all of the points in this statement, without pandering.
Does it make sense why snow science and ski touring might not be broad enough now?

Where did you get the idea that I want to be a guide? This is a 3 and a half week course I'm designing, NOT a major, dude. I'm heading for pre-med, man. Orthopedics. I don't know how much to "extrapolate" as far as that's concerned. Go across the globe and find people to dissect? (kidding).Originally Posted by joshbu
Creativity has been sucked out of my head throughout high school. I swear I used to able to come up with a half-original thought, but that was a pretty long time ago.
Back to the drawing board. (Funny... coming up with a topic to research was the hardest part of my entire research project... see any parallels?)

Playing the devil: Why would you design your "intellectual adventure" not in your major? Or even close?Originally Posted by Max Gosey
