    Brasil

Only saw a thread about Brasil from 2007, so figured I would let that one remain where it is.

Has anyone ever surfed in Brasil? Looking at Sao Paolo currently, trying to find beginner to intermediate waves. Surfing will be about 1/3rd of the trip, the rest is just more travel oriented.

    kite surf

If you're willing to explore kitesurfing in Brasil, let me know. Just seeing someone kitesurf the waves outside Fortaleza will inspire you to learn.

Less crowds farther south, like Florianopolis. Much safer too.

I wrote an article about my recent surf trip in Florianopolis. http://www.globalquiver.com/blog/ind...ilian-lineups/

If you need boards, my friend Manuel lives there and you can contact him though Global Quiver (same site as the link above). You can have your boards picked out and ready for you before you land. Just use the site to look up boards in Florianopolis (I think there's only one listed right now), and write an email to that user. He has access to way more boards, but he has been slow to put them up on the site.

Let me know if you run into any trouble, and I'll make sure you get set up.

..did you find any reef or point breaks down in florianopolis or were they all beach breaks all around? can you describe the waves a little bit... are they short rides or longer ones..

There really aren't reef breaks in Florianopolis. It's almost all beach breaks with the occasional sand bottomed point. The ride is essentially as long as the swell is big (which means relatively short).

All in all, not world class waves, but they are super consistent and you can count on them basically year round. And they're fun. The quickness and steepness of a lot of the waves makes for really powerful rides.

When it's big you can find barrels.

Crowds are thinned by the huge number of options (even though all the options are pretty similar) The only time where the crowds just suck beyond belief is Jan/Feb (that's when the Argentines and people from Sao Paulo come in droves).

I really love Brazil, and I would go there even if I didn't surf. And since I do surf, I love it even more. All in all it's a great destination, and seriously if you go, I'd be happy to talk to you and potentially get you in touch with Manuel for info about boards/places to stay/good breaks etc.
