A 34-year-old Aurora man was killed today when he fell nine stories to his death, apparently while hanging Halloween decorations from a balcony of his apartment building, police said.
The incident happened about 9 a.m. as the man was stringing decorative lights on the roof of an outside balcony in an apartment complex on the 1000 block of Howell Place on Aurora's southeast side, police said.
He was alone in his apartment when he apparently slipped and fell, landing in a grassy area next to a circular driveway outside the complex's main entrance, police said. A plastic chair was found near the balcony, and police theorized the victim had been standing on it or the ledge of the balcony.
The man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of family members, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. An autopsy was pending at the Kane County coroner's office.
Police said they do not suspect foul play and classified the man's death as an accident.
