    Beer Wars

Just streamed this documentary from Netflix. Not outstanding, but pretty good. The basic story is how the big brewers got to where they are and the tactics they use to try to keep the small guys from gaining any traction.

watched this a couple weeks ago, beginning was pretty dry but once she finally got into telling the story it was pretty good. I'm already a homebrew/craft beer guy and dont ever really drink A-B products anyways, but I had no clue how many brands they owned before this movie. definitely makes you want to stick to the local microbrews.

cool to see Charlie Papazain (sp?) get some recognition.

that lady pitching the caffeine beer as some kind of new microbrew was an idiot. pretty sure sparx or whatever that shit is already has the ghetto caffeine beer in a can market covered.

and the guy from beer advocate is a douchebag (I think he only made it into the extras on the dvd - thank god).

We've won it. It's going to get better now. You can sort of tell these things.

That might be a little harsh, but it did seem like her biggest obstacle was that she just didn't have a great product. It's not that she doesn't have any marketing skills, it's that's she's marketing a boring product.

Sadly, Sparks is no longer caffeinated.

    craft beer fest

awhile back I worked the Craft Beer Fest here in Boston and Anat Baron, the producer/director, had a panel discussion on her movie. The panel included brewery owners discusssing the movie and the challenge for the little guys going up against the big 3: Bud, Coors and Miller. Interesting since I hadn't seen the movie yet and I've got a backround in marketing.
Sadly, of the 100's of beer guzzlers at the event , there were only 20 of us in the audience AND they still had a beer table in the back of the room so it wasn't like you were missing all the samples.
Love Beer, Love Life (sorry,Rich Doyle , Harpoon CEO and co-founder was on the panel & I'm a big Harpoon fan)
