I joined september 21 2000. Been a long strange journey. I remember being bummed I didn't join the first time I saw the board, September 10th, cause then I could have been in the top 20 joined. Instead I was like number 78 or something.

I hosted some of the first maggot parties, including the very first maggots summit parties (hosted by Rusty Nails, who was my house guest during the summit for 2 weeks)

I hosted the Jackson Hole summit with Massive help from Sherpa Style (I miss her)

I got hired by tgr, I got laid off by tgr 3 years later.

I harbor stories about doing really crazy shit with some of skiing's biggest names while working with TGR but enough time has yet to pass for me to be able to tell the tales.

I had to ask nobis to stop hitting on my (now ex) wife. - 3 times on 3 different occasions.

I made the best friends I ever had here, and seen those friendships slip away.

My grandparents, Dad, and a few friends have died in that time, I got a masters Degree. I bought My first home, I now live solo in my 6th.

I only had one daughter, now I have 2, one of whom is 10.

This board has been witness to some of my greatest triumphs, and biggest disasters.

I miss what it was, and am stoked by what it can be.

    Fucking amazing place, this forum.

    good pull here.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I know a lot of you "miss it for what it once was" but I joined just after the original posting of this thread and can say TGR is still as much to me as it was for Frozen. I joined sometime in 06 and soon got on a last minute helitrip to Valdez with Altasqualick and then another last minute Valdez trip arranged by Badski only this year. I met Fattwins through this site, which then formed the nucleus of the Poachninja crew I ride with, party with, and consider my best friends today. I have skied with many maggots around the world and have made some great friends as well. Notable stories include riding with Mike Pow in Niseko blower while he worm turns away on the 175 slalom skis he insists on riding, drinking with MTT until he throws up on himself and then goes to the bar for more, heli skiing with Boston John at the end of an epic PNW storm, explaining a "spit roast" to Splat while field testing the new Lhasa pow (then known as the BROcker and I still have the prototype now mounted with dynafits), getting lost and then vertigo with Shaggy in a Whistler whiteout, searching for RoadTrip's white Gotama after one of the worst flat land tomahawks ever witnessed in Alta, hitting first descents with Soprano and Travis Parker in Greenland, and so much more.

I have also gone through so much personally in the relatively short time I have been a maggot. I have lost my job twice (once voluntarily), watched my mother die of cancer, had personal problems (only aired as aliases ) and empathized with those going through the same.

So the more TGR changes the more it stays the same. We still have epic TRs (Ville's season TR comes to mind as a great recent TR), bandwaggon gear fetishes (from Spats with 16 din Salys, to Lhasas with Dukes and now EHPs with Dynafits), and getting together to both ski and party. We still pull together for a good cause (ask skitski) but then argue over nothing. The way I see it TGR is still TGR with its mixture of sages, experts, enthusiasts, JONGS, jokers, asshats, aliases and trolls that make this place the liveliest online ski community period. If you still think it wasn't what it was there is always alpinezone...
