I started in September 2000 on p-mag, I had to check but I was member #13. Kind of lurked for a while and then stopped paying attention to the board. Came back about year later and everything had grown exponentially.

With my move to Denver a few years back I became more involved. Made the move to TGR during the exodus and have had more posts here than I did over on powder. (still not that many compared to others)

It only gets better though for me as I am planning on experiencing my first Utah mini summit in December and there's no way I am missing the summit in Jackson. Funny part, at least for me, is that the legal dept here at my job asked me to attend an arbitration hearing the first two weeks of February and I already told them no way. Told them that they would have to wait until April/May before I will make a weekday commitment to attend any hearings.

What may be truly amazing is how many names ARE still around from that shirt.

str8 (sometimes!), MD, ice, Dex, RB, pinnoir, ACE, frz, 13, Rev, ONS, ty, phunk, LB, Spicoli (in disguise), Buster, Pu, Particle, Cletus, Dan, RJ, PowHo, shralper (maybe?), BB, Me, dday, Esto, Kush, MBS, Re, Slip, Rusty, SCNS (in disguise), skiergirl (I know you're lurking!), WC, pyg, nopain, ten80, Big E...

    wow.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

I forgot all about rec.skiing.alpine. I was on there during my first University years when the internet to us consisted of simple text and strange gophers. Did a search and turned up a couple handfuls of my posts dating back to Dec. 1994. Yikes! Now I feel old...

    Here's one from '95:

    Powder magazine is killing me.
Three issues out already and we're still a month or two away from snow
    (Montreal is anyways).
Now my mind is filled with images of deep powder, gnarly chutes, tight
glades etc. I didn't hear a word that was spoken in my last comp. class.
I can't study, can't even think straight. I've caught myself caressing my
skis and thinking back to past seasons on numerous occasions. I can't ski
in body so I've been skiing in mind since the first issue came out. I'm going
    to flunk out of school.
Just wanted to share the suffering.
Now, if you'll excuse me, there's someplace I must go,
Where the runs are steep and there's always snow.
I'm sorry, it's a place you never will find,
For I've gone to the deepest realms of my mind.

    Talking

Nice Gordy! We talked about this exact thread to be at Stimulus. Nice to see the responses!!

Now, It is all Twoplankers fault!

Been best friends with him since I got into Logan, Ut in 1997. Met him a bit after thru a mutual friend and the rest is history. I had heard him talk of the "Powdermaggots", this group of great "skiers". Well, he skied, I boarded and we have had a blast since!!

On the top of Strawberry lift at Snowbasin in the winter of '01, 2P, Mrs. 2P, Myself and Mrs. Myself got off the gondy and heard a distant yell, "Twoplankkeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr" from above and there is some dudes named Frozen, MeatDrink9 and I think there were a few others. 2P told me "you don't want to go this way" as they started hiking up. I tucked my tail, said ok, and found the girls on the way down, telling em, "yeah, he ditched me for some stupid powdermaggots (none of which I had met yet)". Yes, I said that.

So I talked with 2P about this board and he said it was a "skiers" BB. To me, so what! Fine, I skied since I was 5, been racing for years and no I just happen to snowboard. Fuck it, Im logging on!

12/19/02 the snowboarder logged in to Powmag and got a hell of a jonging. It obviously did not phase me. After 1200+ posts, the flock headed to TGR, and of course I followed.

Since then, I have organized going on 3 Utah Mini Summits, keeping the tradition alive. Hell, the first one I set up I ended up tearing my knee upi just a bit before and was in a knee brace, sitting in GMD, watching it DUMP. The Loritab was keeping me content and a few hobbles outside to have my own safety meetings, I came back up to see some dude walking around with a pitcher of beer and 2 glasses. He looked bewildered as I had my crutches up against the window with my slut orange Artic Isle jacket hung on them as a signal to come to the bar when you are done skiing. DUH! Little did I know this is an unwritten rule at Alta. So this guy walks back toward me and says, "Buzz?" I had just met a great dude named Lumpy, also relatively new to the BB. Well, we got to know each other properly, over 4 pithcers of beer.

Then another hobbler, Meats of Evil, then another, cololi, both with cankles. Lent a shoe to cololi to go out to his auto and get his shoes as his cankle was NOT going back in that ski boot.

Pretty soon, Splat comes on in and the party is now in full swing. WAIT!!!Back up, Splat was the second maggot I met, as 2P and I rolled into the Alta parking lot, I got the first hearing of the famed "FKNA"!! I wondered what kind of group I go myself into at that point.

After that, I met so many more generous maggots, all of which continued bgetting me so drunk my knee no longer hurt at all and I was talking shit about getting on someone's skis to say I at least took a run at the event I organized. Someone with some sense talked me out of it, thank you who ever you were!!!

Since then, I have been witness to an internation incident at the prevous Frozenwater dwelling, met so many of you it is hard to keep track of who is who, became great friends with the likes of Woodsy, PowHo, Flykdog, GT40, Meats of Evil, Lumpy, Altachic, BobMc, Macdaddy, phUnk, Jayfrizzo, hell, there are so many. Made it to Hood this July to and found my long lost brother, Natty Dread!!

To top it off this year, I won ski poles from PM Gear, Lumpy GAVE me a pair of SKI bindings, Stu Gotz, who I have not had the pleasure of meeting has a pair of skis in the mail as we speak for me ( for the price of shipping) and Twoplanker donated a used pair of SKI boots for me to get going on this year.

Hell, that is worthy of a !!

Been Buzz or Buzzworthy since the start of my mad posting and marketing the MINI.

Been a hell of a trip and I would not change anything!!!!

BTW, UTAH MINI SUMMIT, DECEMBER 15-20, 2004!!!!

I remembered, after reading this thread in depth, that my third son's name came from a "name that son" thread on the p-mag board. I think it was Buster that recommended the name Stuart after Mt. Stuart in the Cascades. (Naming him after a mountain was mandatory)

Started lurking early in 2001 and didn't post for well over a year. My first post was in a big thread urging lurkers to out themselves. I was promptly told to sit down and shut up by Geronimo. I think I still have well under a 100 posts over at pmag and I guarantee the vast majority of those are in Tech Talk and Gear Swap. Moved over here during the exodus.

The first maggot I ever met was Tyrone Shoelaces who was solo at Kirkwood's Chair 6 on No Ka Oi's. This was right after the topsheet development on the board and the No Ka Oi's were THE maggot ski. I wasn't even registered at that point, so I don't think I even introduced myself... simply stated I was a lurker and that it was cool to see the skis in person. It was weird to ski a whole season at Kirkwood as a lurker and occasionally catch a trace of maggotdom. Of course that has all since changed as it's now nearly impossible to ski Kirkwood without bumping into a Maggot. We should buy that place.

Lurked awhile, mostly trolling for gear. Started making a fool of myself about 3 years ago now, still at it. Trolling for gear that is.

what i want to know is, where's Jack Handy when we need him?

I first registered around Oct-Nov 2002. I met my first maggot (Dantheman) hiking the shoulder during the early Oct. storm that year. Cool chance encounter.

Began skiing six years ago and was lurking on Epic soon after. Eventually registered there a couple years later. For all the Epic-smack generated here, that place was pretty fun back in the day, thanks, in part, to the Maggots who dropped in to stir up some shit.

I would lurk on Powder occasionally at first and later more frequently because of a Maggot acquaintance. I even registered with the name Anus the Menace (the name of a not so good punk band from the late 80s), but quickly forgot my password and never could post. Epic then started going in a direction that I didn’t care for and quite a few really good people left the place. I found myself lurking on Powder more than I was spending time on Epic.

I wasn’t intending to establish a presence on Powder when a certain SCSA decided to post a lengthy diatribe after getting banned from Epic. I already had a few issues with the guy and for whatever reason had an urge to shovel some shit back at him. Registered as Viva el Caballo, and wrote about four paragraphs of venomous spew and came very close to posting it. But I deleted everything and instead posted a few sentences in which I told SCSA what a dork and loser he was. Immediately Destroyer called me out and I went at it with him. Buster had a few words for me too. Uberscheist weighed in as did a couple of others and I think it was DINMS who told me to fuck off. But I stayed. That was two years ago. Came to TGR with the rest of the “diaspora” a year ago.

It’s been a fun couple of years. To date, I’ve convened for countless beers, a party or two, and a handful of minis. Have met so many great people through this community, but that’s best for another thread.

I made the same K2-Powder-TGR transition many made and have been here since Sept '01.

I've lurked most of the time and met some maggots along the way. Test rode some Iggies at Bachelor with Natty D early on. Made it up to Nelson for some cat skiing with Buster and others. Met a few mags at MH Meadows in past seasons.

Been stoked to ski with everyone I've met and looking forward to skiing with those I haven't.

I have no idea, as lost dougw to become DougW ( big change). I think I have been at Powmag/TGR for 4 years? With 1 year of that splitting my time between Epic and here ( old here). Epic people thought I was a maggot/ Powmag people thought I was a Epicite. I think I started posting here(powmag) doing the "Canada -51st state" time frame. Back then Powmag was tougher and needed a thick skin. Not the soft and fluffy place TGR has become. Well except for Blurred.

I had migrated to Epic from skimag.com when every body left do to a reformat of the board.

I may be the only one that has been to a summit and a gathering. Well that will admit to it.

This thread is muy bueno! It is indeed like sitting around the campfire, and I'm glad I haven't read it all b/c it's somethin' fun to do tomorrow when my eyes begin to glaze over in my cube.

Btw Frozenwater, I really liked reading your post. It gave me hope to read about how your life went from cubicle hell to ski submersion. And hope is a nice thing to give somebody.

well I joined the powder site in '02 as El Carvo, mostly off and on lurking, only skied with a couple of maggots, Jibj and iskibc. Had fun, poached a closed run with them to find patrollers doing the same,,, uh yeah well we skied the line through the trees and didn't know it was roped.... blah blah.

    Some other memories:

    DPPS.

Although it wasn't ultimately maggot created, a hilarious day on the board...
    YARRR, matey!

and don't mean to kill the stoke but it's important that its echoed: someone mentioned above [antijinx] how cool it is that none of us have died living this dream[/antijinx] I was wondering the same thing, if we'd ever lost anyone, with the often insane, unbelievable level of skiing on here. str8line, Robb, Scott, and all our other proho's, air pics of MD9, Trackhead big descents, too many others to list, all come to mind. And I wouldn't have it any other way - I love the risk in this sport. But, let's keep our loved ones in mind. Glad we're all here. Let's keep it that way.

    on with the memories/stoke. . .

    the punnery thread:
I think a thread got OT/hijacked or something but it became this multipage "what's yer comeback" wicked punnery battle session. one liners, double entendres, often brilliant shit, building off the last poster's pun were just destroying me (stomach hurt so bad) My degree was in span. lit. so I really enjoy well written material and I thought some of the shit folks were throwing down was just stupid brilliant. Humor and meaning folding back and forth and over itself like i'd never seen. Triple entendre. definite two pee drop material.

How do you know we haven't lost anyone? Lots of people have stopped posting, maybe one or two of those stopped posting because they died. I'd like to think that someone from my family would make a post here to announce my death, but they likely would have other pressing issues to deal with.

I guess i'm talking about the regular crew in all its morphic amoebic-ness. we all know each other enough that word would get out IMO. enough of that.

Who's been around long enough to remember that battle pun thread? Not a tough one, i think it was only last year or two, at most.
