    I remember the snowflakes...

I lurked at powmag from the beginning, Sept '00, when I went to grad school in central NY. Reading Racer-X, Orphic Seth, Pinner, Punani, Cliff, etc kept me sane in the land of Greek Peak. My first post some months later was in the Simpson's Trivia thread off in Tech Talk, I think. Kush maybe started it? I can't remember.

I'd been Cletus for many many years before the boards, and when I went to grad school and started playing for an undergrad club soccer team, I became "Grandpa Cletus." Young fuckers. With the Simpson's Trivia thread in full swing, it seemed like an appropriate entry.

That got me through '00-'01. After a summer back at home in Boulder, I moved to DC for three months or so at the end of 2001, to start a new job. That's when the t-shirt thing happened. Twoplanker cranked out a design, I collected a bunch of money, we got them made, and I delivered a hot-off-the press batch to Iceman for EC distribution around Nov 2001. My first maggot meeting.

On Dec 21, 2001 I hopped in the car, and drove back across the country to my folks place in Boulder, then on to SLC where I met my old pal Cornholio, who I had introduced to the board some three months earlier when driving from Boulder to D.C., via Cleveland, where the poor bastard is doing his PhD . Cornholio accompanied me from SLC to Ketchum to Bend, where I'd been living and working at the very same job until this summer. We were put up by MD9 in SLC, my second maggot meeting, and then missed the Reverend in Ketchum on account of being too drunk to navigate out of Whiskey Jacques.

A few months into living in Bend, I drove 9 hours north on a whim, to meet Buster, Dex, Iceman, Natty, Armchair, Powderpyg, k2Stu, and the rest of the crew that was there in Nelson, B.C. After that, things went downhill quite rapidly.

I signed up here quite a while before the migration I believe, when pmag was feeling a little crowded. A bunch of us from there started coming in here for the quiet and calmness. Ha! Look at us now. I registered as Yossarian on a day when I was feeling particularly trapped by my job, but I'm really still just the same ole Cletus.

4 years. 4 years! I feel like that guy in Gross Point Blank. 10 YEARS! 10 . 10 YEARS MAN! Where have you been? 10 YEARS!

Now I live in Denver, the Rev is moving to CO, MD9 works 10 mins from my apartment, Armchair has moved from LA to NYC, Punani has moved from San Fran to LA, Pinner doesn't post, and on and on.

Times change, but these boards are still keeping me sane.

I lurked on the K2 board now and then but never, ever posted because it was frustrating knowing that I couldn't respond to anything I posted (only Internet connection was library and I definitely wasn't there everyday). Finally joined the fray in 2000 at pmag as Floater. Was later ordained by Rusty Nails and here I am today.

still waiting to have a maggot encounter on my home turf. came oh-so-close last season when i saw a single no-ka-oi learning against the wall at my local resort.
I still can't believe you didn't come into the bar and yell for change, I was sitting right inside the door.

As far as the old t-shirt goes, I just went downstairs and got mine. Notable absentees include P'OB, Ski Professor, Q-Bert, Blind Faith, Roll-Gybe, Coreshot,Cliff Huckstable and Huckasoreass. There's a bunch of other people on there who I don't remeber who they are, but it's pretty amazing how many are still around at least on an occasional basis. It's also pretty funny how many of the names are aliases.

I found the P-mag board WAY back, when I lived in Wilmington, DE. Staying up late a few nights reading stuff I just couldn't comprehend. Never registered just read a few times and blew it off. Fast foward a few months, I move to Denver and instantly back to the board looking for people to ski with. I posted under Sleepur back in, sept/oct of '02. I didn't realize that no one reads the "junction" forum. Instead some snowboarding lurker emails me, guy never posted then and never has. Still a buddy today. I was on and off for the first few months, playing it smart, lurking, learning the ways of the board, to keep my JONGing to a minimum. Then reinvented myself as Crinkle sometime that spring?? Didn't become really hooked on the board till right before the exodus.

This place has been a solid source of entertainment for me over the past year or more. It has allowed me to meet some great peops, and some super passionate skiers. rock on

Posted as kjclimbing on p-mag during the first summit in Utah, 2001 - Remember that Rusty? - hooking up the maggots with CHEAP tix at The Canyons. Had a great time meeting the maggots that I became an addict soon there after, changing to powstash.

I really jumped on the board with my raising money for Silverton when the P-mags ponied up to name two chairs - We raised over $800. It was super cool to get these checks and money orders in my mailbox that were nothing but an envelope and a check - often no name just a return addy. Reminded me of how sacred skiing is to many and how the dream of two "true snow sliding dreamers" in a small mountain town in Colorado could be the catylist for snow sliders accross the globe to paypal me $ and send me $ expecting the $$ would arrive in Silverton and do some good. There's hope in humanity, that's for certain.

We named two chairs there "Change for a Nickel" and "Powder to the Maggots". Ahh the days when there was change for a nickel heard in the Alta Germ line and many other lift lines accross the land of ski.

I remember that for Christmas in 2000, I got a new(er), slick(er) computer. I quickly found the old Pmag board, and lurked for a few months. The Pmag board says that I registered on "2/17/01." My first post was something jongish about wanting to meet other skiers in the L.A. area. From there on, I posted somewhat infrequently.

Later that summer, I left LaLa Land for Colorado. For most of the winter of 2001/2002, I lived without a computer or a phone, holed up in a bare-bones, freezing cold shack in the Colorado Rockies. As such, I had no idea that the 1st Summit occurred or that the No Ka Oi's existed. Sometime just before the summit, I moved out, but didn't have a regular internet connection until sometime in the summer. As such, the summer of 2002 is when I really entered true Maggotdom. I haven't looked back since.

After POWDER started quoting the maggots in the magazine (~2001) I lurked for a few years VERY sporadically on the PM Board because I'd had a bunch of info stolen by signing up for some website (likely porn-related.) Didn't want to register, so couldn't post. Finally realized the error of my ways and registered in May 2003 to post on a "What would you do for Maggots" thread. Pinnoir immediately JONGed the shit outta me - I resisted, others chimed in... in the end I spent a great slow day at work interacting with a bunch of internet ski nerds I didn't know from Adam. I never looked back.

Some of the things I'll never forget about this (and THAT) place are Plakespeare's Heli Ski Trip STEALTH fundraiser (one of the coolest things I've EVER participated in,) the Daniel Saga + subsequent exodus (bummer, but necessary,) MD9 & others calling "Fuck You" and leaving - only to return, and the current Bro-Model experiment. The first Maggots I met were at the GMD happy hour at last years Utah Mini, and I've since had the distinct honor of hanging with quite a few others.

This community of Individuals means a lot more to me than I like to admit. Trying to explain this place to non-maggots is difficult... how do you explain the essence of this place? It's so much more than simply chatting about skiing.

They just don't get it. Too bad for them. Suckers. (<---too cool!)

I remember the Powder "snowflakes that led you nowhere" site, but I never got over to the message board until the first UT summit was just about to happen (Jan '02'ish?). That place was my first ever look at an intertnet message baord, I lurked for a while and by the time I registered around April '02 I was comepletely sucked in. At the time I think I was the member who resided the farthest away from good skiing, I was JONG'ed, flamed, and basically received only slightly better than Chris23. I still want to know what happened to the first 22 Chris'. Never met a maggot until UT Mini last season despite a couple of failed attempts earlier. Always been Teledave.

I knew there was something aside from the accent that made you guys special.

    I looked and I registered at P-mag on 4/22/03.

Jesus, could it be that I have babbled this much in just over a year's time? The answer is...

    Yes.

I registered on the powmag forum after reading the famous Heating Truck Bed thread. So I guess that would be around 2001 or 2002. That thread made me see what a bunch of complete strangers would do for each other, very cool. If some of you have never read that complete thread you should. It should be on the required reading list for all JONGs.

I registered on the PMag board in the fall of 2001, when my cousin Evil E told me about the time-wasting potential and comraderie of the place. Sure enough, the first time I jumped in I got JONGed by Geronimo and told by everyone's favorite action-hero governenor to "leave room in my stomach for his fist."

I mostly lurked for the first year or so, as I was in graduate school in Oregon and constantly commuting between Tahoe and Corvallis every time I got the chance.

I remember watching the Daniel-deletion saga unfold, and the ensuing exodus.

I moved over here with most everyone else, and treid to take a more active role in posting, just as I finished school and moved to Hawai`i for the winter about this time last year. Just in time for the 04 summit, in my home town of Tahoe, my chance to meet all of you and spread some Squaw luv around was blown . Still hoping to meet Telenater, Freshies, and other local guys/gals to hook up for some turns at Squaw or Donner Pass this year.

Cletus was driving through Cleveland for some reason-- maybe going back for his final year of grad school?-- and asked if he could use my computer.

    Sure. Of course.

    This was August 2001.

After a half hour, I wandered off the couch to see what the fuck was so interesting on my computer. Christ, the man was chatting with people on the INTERNET. Only the uber-dorks do that, man! What are you doing? His advice: Don't ask. Don't look. Don't ever come to this site again or you'll never finish your Ph.D.

    He was right.

I now have-- what-- 700? posts here, 1300 in the current incarnation of pmag, and I had 2200 or so before then. Nearly 4000. Holy cow.

This place has taken me to South America, twice. I missed the KW summit, but I've been to nearly every other whoop-de-doo we've put together. And I have the tee shirt to prove it.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

Sorry Nater, but it was just too easy...

Been posting, lurking and plain old hanging since the before time, the long long ago. In fact can't really remember when, but i'm pretty sure it was pretty close to the beginning of the powdermag board. Probably late september 2000. Still love the reaction my friends give me when I tell them I am going to meet or ski with someone from the Internet.

Probably September 2000. I've abused my body to much since then to remember specifics.

Haven't met to many maggots in recent years, but it may be due to lack of health and the fact most of my sking takes place in remote, hippie locations away from the ordinary.

Thought I would just use this icon because its rad and reminds me that BB loves smokin his buddies hog back in B-Ham

Some claim to have experienced cubicle hell, but I was really there. I was just out of my bachelor degree in accounting and had landed a job MANUALLY converting a compnays accounting system from some UNIX based system to Great Plains.

about two weeks into this nightmare I stumbled upon Powdermag.com. It was August of 2000 and there was mention of a forum coming soon....

I watched the birth, and did not understand any of the odd behaviours of the inhabitants. LB was some kind of pro telemarker, Pinner was always bragging about entering comps and placing DFL????

I still wish I would have registered then, but I waited until September 21st 2000. December rolled around and found me outside the house of the first maggot I ever met, Meatdrink9. Things went downhill fast after that.

I had only one child, my parents were married, my wife was still a practicing Mormon, and I was in a dead end job.

The board - directly and through those I met helped me get a Graduate degree, I got a good job, my wife realized that mormonism was not for her, I skied a lot, then I got a great job and quit skiing, then I somehow convinced TGR that I would be a great employee.

Hell of a ride. Along the way I was entertained by punani's costa rica trips, and sometimes lurked in UTOPIA to see what the "cool kids" were up to.

I tried my hand at aliases, it didn't work to well.

As any old timer will tell you, they miss the old days. Somehow forgetting that the old days were probably not much different. I've met a lot of maggots and you guys are my extended family, my best friends, my camping buddies, my drinking friends, my mentors and teachers, my boss, and my coworkers.

Much love to all of you.

Went up to Tahoe in...December 2002? ...can't remember... to visit my brother who was going on and on about some cool site he had discovered. He had just moved to Tahoe and was so stoked to find an instant community - granted they were only pixels at this point and nothing more. later, lph would end up meeting, skiing with and becoming great friends with the amazing kirkweed crew.

But at that time, it was still just an online thing. After a glass (or two) or wine, I thought it would be funny to create an alias and try to stir up some shit. So I created this really annoying teeny bopper character named Shredbetty who was a total brat. After a 3 or 4 page thread (and being threatened, jonged, and supremely made fun of), I realized that this crew was for real and a hell of a lot of fun, and so I dropped the fake alias and came back on as watersnowdirt. The rest is history.

And here I am, once again, ignoring the work that pays my bills to post here.

edit:As far as what I've gotten out of the board.......
Without it I would have never met rightcoast in Utah, who upon our return met up with at Jay peak for a mogul comp. While there he introduced me to his friend Mike (redbeard) who right off the bat told hardrider and I if we got killington passes the next year we could crash at his place whenever. It's kind of hard explaining how I met redbeard to friends who are going up with me for a weekend. "ohhh he was a friend of one of my internet buddies that I met in Utah while on a trip that was organized on this ski website"

OHHHH, I also still have and wear the orig. Powdermag T-shirt!

A Powder Mag employee told me start promoting my 1st movie on their site in Fall of 2001, so I did. I then got hooked and started posting non-movie stuff all the time. It was weird to realize I already new a few posters in 'real' life.

After awhile, I realized I couldn't be 'one of the boys' since I was representing my company, so I started to post less and ease back on the joking.

I've met a ton of maggots, the 1st ones being Rusty and Yardsale when I showed them around Big Sky. I then met phunk in the tram at Snowbird, who tried to ignore me. I've also skied with people like snorkeldeep and Sponsoredbyducttape, who probably thought I was some random dude. And I've walked right by 3-4 maggots at various places, recognizing them from the board but I never said hi. It's been weird and cool meeting everyone.
