Thumbs down Customer service case study #98798 (backcountry.com is lame).

    Backstory:
Ordered a jacket from these guys a month or so back, they matched a price at another store, which was nice. Got the jacket, needed a different size. Sent it back for exchange on my dime.

    Response:
They told me they had actually sold me a previous year's jacket (didn't tell me that when I bought it), and that I could not exchange for current season - which is all they have.

The store they matched the price for was originally selling this year's jacket, not last year's. The store they matched is now sold out, so they won't match the price on my exchange because the "same item" is not available.

    Their explanation:
Despite being the exact same jacket, they have it entered under a different stock # this year, and it would be "too difficult to figure out how to do the exchange".

My explanation: They suck balls, and will get no more of my money.

Thanks, AC, that's super nice. I'll keep that in mind, but I just told the dude to credit my card back on this one. I know about the hook-up, which is why I always check there first when I'm looking for something.

I've dealt with other web-based stores [cough]moosejaw[cough] that totally blew me away with their response when things went wrong, so I'll probably send my cash their way in the future.

It's a matter of principle as much as the actual transaction, this dude (who was some kind of manager) could have given a shit about I was told when I bought the coat, he wasn't going to deal with "the different numbers".
