    BRAIC Fundraiser

The Bear River Avalanche Information Center is having it's annual fundraiser in Logan. Here's the scoop:

Friends of the Logan Avalanche Center
    Fundraiser 2004

    Date: December 4th, 2004 from 6-10 pm
Location: Bridgerland Park Center (920 N 200 W, Logan), Private Party Rental
    Estimated Attendance: 75-100 persons (Price….approx. $20/person)
Event happenings: Dinner provided by Indian Oven
    Raffle of Donated Items
Music provided by local band (not yet decided)
    Beer and alternative beverages available
Potential Info booths?: Cache County Search and Rescue, USU ORC

Theme: “Pray for Snow” Revival, Revelry, and Raising (funds, that is!)
    THIS MIGHT CHANGE

    Event explanation:

The mission of the U.S. Forest Service Utah Avalanche Forecast Center- Logan is to promote avalanche awareness and provide relevant avalanche information for wintertime backcountry travelers who frequent the Northern Utah Mountains. There is one paid full-time, seasonal forecaster for the Logan area who is tasked with providing avalanche awareness programs to the community and regularly releasing morning avalanche and mountain weather advisories.
It is the goal of FLAC to raise funds for supporting the avalanche forecast program. The funds are used to pay for part-time observers, educational outreach, weather instrumentation, equipment, and other pertinent items not provided by the USFS. The Logan community is comprised of both non-motorized and motorized backcountry users. The avalanche forecast program serves both of these groups.

If anyone has anything to donate, any ideas for getting stuff for the raffle, etc., please let me know, or let the center know directly. So far, PM GEAR is donating gear, Gordy Peifer is donating some of his personal gear, and perhaps a couple of other ski/film companies which you may be familiar with (in addition to other, local sponsors). If you have ideas and/ or hookups, please share!

Everybody cross your fingers and if it happens, I will spill it.

hey..thanks for the post. I have some emails out to see if some companies will donate.

I talked To Dave kikkert today and I guess we are going to meet up Friday and head out. No time decision made..need to talk to others.

i think your skis are done as well.

Are you going to go? If my calendar is open, I am.

We are also going to try and have a beacon party again this year. Probably mid-week in November in the late afternoon at Merlin Olsen. Toby said he would be interested in giving a mini clinic before, have a bbq, drink some beers and look for some beacons.

Let me know if any of you LoCachers are interested.
There's a world out there full of color, dreams, and imagination. What are you waiting for?

Would be cool. Will advise on my schedule. Possible business trip around then, to CO, would be packing my skis or board for sure, but it is a long shot.

BUT, if I can work the angle I am trying to work, I will have to be there to ......... well, will advise. I can't make any promises, but I am working on something that could help Toby with his work quite a bit.

I gotta sell the idea to my work.

Problem for me with Beacon drills; have no beacon and dont know how to use one. Guess that is one more reason to come.

Thumbs up I was told by the President of my company to get on the board!!!

I was just ASSIGNED ( ) to come to the board and do research on snow science and the possibility of our company getting involved with not only this event but the use of our products to help Avalanche Forecasters with data collection to help keep our asses alive.

I have to submit a proposal to donate a used Allegro Field Computer. I could use any of your help in this proposal. I need very good, well written reasons we should donate on such a large basis. (there may be a market for our handheld in this market, I have to prove that).

To see what I am speaking of, check out our website at www.junipersys.com and if you can, help me write this proposal. Hints, tips, gun to heads,........

I am also to set up a meeting with myself, Toby Weed, our CEO and Ignacio Birkner, our controller and 84 Olympic Skier for Argentina. We want to asses what types of data are taken and what the NEEDS of the Avalanche Forecast is looking for.

Help me out guys, Toby and others can use our help!!!

I think your best bet is to meet with Toby. He said that he's recording data with pencil and waterproof paper, so just about anything would be an improvement.

Find out what kind of data he is collecting and what the status of other avi reporters is, in terms of what they use to collect data.
