Scorsese's Shutter Island

I imagine there's some interest in this flick and my amateur opinion is to not waste your time. Most should have the heart of the plot figured out in the first fifteen minutes before a long waiting game continues until the end through additional but unsubstantial twists. Don't expect much suspense and the most thrilling part of the movie is the very well orchestrated trailer.

EDIT - if you've seen David Lynch's "Lost Highway", expect something similar just not as executed properly.

i saw the posters in the city this week for this movie and the first thing that came to mind was the faux "working title" movie called Danger Beach in Entourage which was given to Leonardo diCaprio. Cheezy name!

Were you at the advanced screening on 16th st last night?

I thought it was really close to being really good. Overall a creepy movie punctuated by unnecessary stylized flashbacks to WWII, and the annoying distraction of his flashback wife popping up totally killed the mood for me.

After you figure out the twist, it drags on leading you to believe there is another clever twist, but there isn't....

All that said, I would still definitely recommend seeing it.

Yeah, I was there on 16th. My main problem was that there were several scattered directions the movie could have gone; in the end, the least interesting path was chosen.




I've read the movie is very faithful to the book, but I thought all could have been salvaged had there been one additional scene at the end inside the lighthouse depicting Laeddis on the operating table with his brain being pulled as part of the fictitious experiments alluded to earlier.

This is getting really bad reviews and wonderful box office returns. That is no typical for a Scorcese flick.

I liked the movie. The book was better though. The movie did a surprisingly good job of staying true to the book. Having read the book first and knowing the story, it was interesting watching it play out on the screen. The book was written by Dennis Lehane, the same guy who wrote Mystic River, which was made into a fantastic movie.

My take on the ending: can't really tell which version of reality is "true" -- right? Or did I miss something in the movie, which indicated that one version or another is real?
