Maybe I missed it, Bob, what boots are you using?

xplor seems pretty great in concept for xcd. I would love to give them a shot, but the cost is crazy town. I also hope a double boot can be developed cuz intuition liners can really help with the fit. Some sort of equivalent to t4/excursions. I’ve had plenty of fit issues (heal blisters and toe blisters) with xcd boots. I know that scarpa has some sort of distribution deal with rotte at least in North America.

    going nordic = going ghay?

Well, this season is going bust locally. Our little loppet next weekend is now canceled. Drove by to check the trail access to the local peak to do some sled certifications this weekend, and the snow is gone even from the upper elevations of our XC area. Won’t be using the local mountain for the sled training either - newbs and mixed gravel and ice trails for a couple km’s won’t mix well. These are April conditions in Jan/Feb. Craziest ‘winter’ weather in my 16yrs here.

Best day of the season. Feet are finally attached to my body! I found this tip for V2 online. Pretend you’re bouncing a ball off the top of your skis and catching it on the way back up. It really helps with timing and helps produce powerful kick-off.
Love Winter. I noticed that top five Unbound racer, Sarah Lange knocked off 50miles not K, at a 6:30 pace, up at Green Woodlands today, savage

Alfa Vista Advance GTX. I know they're discontinued, because that's why I got a great price on them. I think they're more comfortable than any Asolo leathers I've ever had, other than the Glissades, which were lighter duty than these. Pair weight, my size actual weight, is 60 oz, surprisingly light considering the turning control that I can manage with them (versus 48 oz for my Salo NNN combi boots, 98 oz for my Excursions with Intuitions, 96 oz for my old painful Extremes that I still have).

Any midwest mags have a prediction on the birkie happening? I know they are talking about a lap course (10k??), but how are they going to get everyone through that in 2 days?

Official announcement will be on Feb 12.

My personal prediction is they cobble together some short loop near the start just to say they did it. No way the whole route is open. They really hyped the 50th Anniversary event and now this happens.

Here is my favorite Nordic trail in the area, pic yesterday by a friend.

That’s what I was afraid of. I was hoping they’d postpone til next year rather than force it, but oh well. Thanks for the info!

Looks very similar to what many of us envisioned a new telemark norm binding would look like so many years ago. Essentially a take on a SPD cleat set under the ball of the foot. Luckily the torque of a XC skater isn’t close to what a telemark skier in bumps might need.

Looks nice. I’d like to see a BC version that has a locked down heel.

Thanks for that. I watched the livestream Mon night. Pretty impressive that they are going forward with it, although being in wave 10 after 3k+\- people ski the 10k loop is going to be interesting. Definitey brining a headlamp for a late finish!

I’m so bummed that Ben O had to scratch as he has mono. I’ll be cheering on the USwomen and the men!

What a difference a storm makes! Conditions look good for the races now:

My dad will be happy when they open up the area to the public again. The venue is his go-to nordic spot, and he's been perpetually annoyed as it has changed over time and catered more to competition. Between the Loppet and the high school teams, and now preparing for the World Cup, access for ordinary folk who just want to take a lap or two after work has gotten progressively worse.

About a foot or so of snow in the past 4 days has opened centers that were downright dangerous (if they were even open) just last weekend.

. Just watched Jessie Diggens get a third. Gus took first earlier. Beautiful day to watch a race.
