    Thumbs up Midi recce

This weekend the Aiguille du Midi shut (to repair the suspension cable that they dropped back at the begining of the summer but kept quiet about) until the 17th of Dec so I headed up with Martina to get some turns in and check out the condition of the crevasses.

If you know the second pitch of the Grands Envers (sometimes called the Cold du Plan) then you will recognise this mother of a slot.

Nice pic looking over towards the Helbronner and the Dent du Geant.

Hey, I think that's the bergschrund from last year that I did an unintentional front flip/roll over while realizing my new boots didn't fit during the straightline to cross the glacier, Phil.

    No Mir de Glace exit?

that is indeed the slot that you took a closer look at last year. It should get bridged over by the time the lift opens again in December, its good to know how big it is though. It is about 30m wide.
Mer de Glace didnt have quite enough cover to do a full run

Definite yes on the Envers. Haven't done Col du Plan, but believe you are correct there as well. Was Phil making a 'cold' du plan joke? He'd certainly know, I saw a film of him outrunning an avie on the Col du Plan that was actually lapping at his ass.

Col du Plan is skiers right of the far left exit of Grands Envers which goes to requin refuge...I think. Both lead into Mer de Glace.

    Nice pics, Phil!

I have a good memory, but it doesn't last very long. In that case, I've probably done Col du Plan. Sherpa should know all that stuff.

    Hey Sherpa!!! How you doin?

Not too bad. Bummin around CO waiting for the snow to start flying...and debating a road trip to your next of the woods.

C'mon by. My pad is about 1/2 a step up from typical Cham accomodations if you need a place to crash.

Thanks for the link to your site. Nice set of pictures you have collected.
Sunday was THE best day of the Fall season. Hike up to the French summits of the Jura. Here is a picture from the Jura near le Colomby de Gex looking back at you. There are a few other pics under thread "Jura". litt
