    The Rampage!

    Ok wich mags are going?

So far I have funken, CS, fondigley and myself. AG, Mr AG, GT, meats?

Fondigley and I are heding out thursday evening and are planning to head straight for Virgin. A couple of my riding friends who are also going say they know the area pretty well and are promosing excellent riding right near the event, so I am deciding to pass on any extra driving and just plan on hanging out near virgin. Fortunately I have heard there is everything from dirt jumps to shuttles so we should be able to squeeze plenty of riding in.

Camping - Definatly plan on camping, probably in the designated party camping area at the base of the venue.

The event - Any predictions? So many contendors this year, it's a really hard call.

I'd be surprised if they're able to pull off the event w/ all the rain they've received (it's a 1 in 100 year storm down there, already rained well over 10")...but hopefully!

My attendance is weather pending. phUnk's jibberish got to me and if there's snow I'll be at Mammoth all weekend. If not, I'll see you fools on Friday. There is good camping down the road towards Zion by the Virgin River with more space than the comp venue.

Wednesday / Thursday is going to be a major snow producer in Southern Utah. I have heard predictions of many feet already. Be ready to be cold (if they can pull off the event at all). I'll let you know what I hear.

    WOULD IT!?!"

    Forecast isn't looking promising

Virgin, UT forecast Daytime High /Overnight Low (°F) Precip.

    Oct 27 Rain / Wind 59°/49° 80 %
    Oct 28 Rain / Thunder 55°/39° 60 %
    Oct 29 Partly Cloudy 59°/40° 20 %
    Oct 30 Mostly Sunny 61°/41° 10 %
    Oct 31 Showers 52°/34° 40 %

This doesn't look good for the Rampage. Might mean high altitude play, instead of desert fun. I will have to wait and see, myself, but it isn't looking like a fun weekend in SW Utah. Latest plan is looking like we will be taking skis and bikes but definitely heading west Thursday after work. Who knows where we will end up. But it will be fun either way.

the new finals area did not dry in time, so both days were on last years finals course, with some new line choices. cedric broke his shoulder in practice, and the young kids were killing it. cameron zinc was trying 360's over a hip cliff, romanuik stuck a one footed table over a new HUGE gap and kyle strait was in the lead when we left. canefield cut open his thigh and had to be heli'd out, so we took off before the last 2 riders, but it came down to either vanderham, romaniuk or kyle strait who had the best first run. it's hard to know whats going on with scoring when your there. anyways some pics to follow.

What an exciting weekend in Utah. Starting in Boulder at 6pm on Thursday and getting to Salt Lake City at about 3am on Friday. It was only hours before opening day at Brighton, where the fluffy white stuff was falling and the mountain was looking perfect. We came thru and made second chair and of course, first tracks where ever we wanted. The snow was perfect for the taking, and we took, until we couldn't move. With around 3 hours of sleep, a swiss cake roll, and a bottle of water in me, my body wasn't prepared to rip all day. So around 2 in the afternoon we called it. Well I can't complain about a good solid 4 hours of powder skiing in October. Especially when I didn't even plan on skiing this weekend, one week ago. Now pack the truck back up and head south, with a quick overnight stop at a hotel in Fillmore for some much needed R&R. We traveled thru Toquerville arriving in Virgin shortly after 10 am Saturday morning. With the wind blowing the Redbull Rampage was in the midst of the first qualifying run. A beer, some food, and some sick sight seeing, well not really sight seeing more like people seeing. We headed off to get in a shuttle run before dusk. Grafton was the location and it was the perfect topper for the evening. Finishing at dark, we loaded up the trucks and headed for food. A quick overnight camp, which we all needed, cause in about 5 minutes our crew was out. The morning came and we did one more shuttle run and headed off to the finals. I would write about it but why, check the site: www.redbullrampage.com We ended up leaving Virgin around 4. With Daylight savings time we lost an hour of light at night, but we jammed back to Colorado. Until hitting Vail pass where we encountered the normal high altitude winter blizzard in effect. From then on we crept back to Boulder arriving around a quarter after 3 in the morning. What a trip, a little long to pack into 3 days, but what a blast. Look for TR from Hev.
