    Proposal - No Political Threads

We all know the election is 1 week away and voting is important (der).

However, the snow is flying again and stoke is rising faster than Michael Jackson in a day care!

Soooooooo. My idea is that we self-moderate and do away with political threads until the predictable "I told you so" thread(s) on Nov. 3rd.

    Oct. 26 - Nov. 2 = No politics!

    Who's with me? Aye?!

jeesus people - if you don't like it, don't read it! It's not that hard.

If people want to post political stuff, they should be able to without being pressured into not doing so. Those who don't want to read them, should just skip over them.

Those that post political stuff, should just clearly label it as such.

You don't hear us women screaming "no more NSFW links please,", so why the ban on political stuff? (rhetorical question - you don't have to answer that).

I don't post in them all that often, but I like reading the political threads. Don't like them? Don't read them...

    No argument from me there.

The only reason I posted this was because I thought a new degree of self-moderation for the 1 week before the election would be a cool change of pace, and then back to normal afterward.

I only thought of it 'cuz the snow is flying and I imagine that there would be more pol threads in the week before the election and they would be especially heated.

As for the comment about women & NSFW threads ... I bet more women would come out of lurk mode if a ban on those threads were to happen.

I would have no problem saying the political threads should go in the Padded Room or something though...

13 - while I appreciate where you're coming from (I think we're all very tense about November 2, not matter which side you're on), I still think that people should not all of a sudden be pushed into the padded room. This board has a long tradition of people posting political stuff right in here ski/snowboard, no matter how many times people have advocated that it go elsewhere. So what that tells me is not that people can't self moderate, but that it's important to them, and they want a wider audience. To be frank, that's one of the things I think is amazing about this board. People here care as much about the world around as they do about the moisture content of snow at Alta. It's the aspect of this board that I brag about - it's a damn smart, informed, active group of people. That and the Friday Haikus .

I also think that this is definitely NOT the time to be putting restriction on political talk. We're one week away from what most of us consider the most heated presidential election we've seen in our lifetimes. Let people deal with it and express themselves any way they can.

Again, just skip over them if it bugs you.

I'm thinking the act of calling for no more political threads is in itself a political statement thereby disqualifying the request.

maybe we could create just one political thread. ALL Things political can be posted. This would kind of keep the ranting and raving contained. I also enjoy reading the politcal threads, and with the election close I think there are things that should be dicussed. Just my opinion though.

We should ban baseball threads too...or move them to the padded room. That'd clear a lot of junk out of here.

    no shit ice.

funny nsr gets no respect. can't we just have a funny meter? if there is funny shit going on its okay to be blatently not posting about skiing. then we can just flame all the non-funny nsr stuff, like my friend is an alcoholic type threads

who am i kidding, i don't give two shits anyways.

If this board was all-skiing, all the time, it would be boring as shit. Sure, post your TR's, bring your stoke, get excited about the start of the season, that's all fine. It's great, in fact.

But what has made the boards good over time is give-and-take, slagging, joking, and general goofiness. Because what grows out of that is community. And what the boards have been is a community of somewhat like-minded goofballs who happen to share an interest in skiing and the outdoors.

But if you folks want to create a parallel Epic, go right ahead. I don't really see the point, since Epic is already out there, but knock yourselves out.

my friend whos working on the campaign in new hapshire is trying to get me to commit to working election day. something about driving people around and making sure they get to the voters boxes. so what do you guys think? should i do it? or not?

i could also hold some signs or make some calls. i think the toilet cleaning job is still open too. maybe i should just bag it though. any suggestions?
