Apparently, he is hanging in Florida at film school on some backing from the people that finance he films. It seems to me, so many of these FF film companies get some wealthy folks to back them and just roll around on pro leisure tour. Most are nothing special. Many are less than nothing special. RA's stuff at least is interesting to me. I know he and his crew fit into the "let's get some loot, go fishing, film us, and look cool), group but they seem to be getting better. I hope there are some other surprises this season too.

Yeah. I am a bit jealous in a strange way but I wouldn't trade the route I took over the ff film life. I knocked on the door of that stuff with a professional crew a while back, when I was still doing some guiding. After running numbers over and over in every senerio we could think of, there was really no way to make a living. In that sense, not jealous at all. Maybe things have changed. Either way more and more films with less focus on talent or the soul of the sport are being made. That's just my grumpy bastard opinion though.

Good films or bad films...regardless of talent or how these things are funded, I will be sucked into watching some of this years crop and will get stoked on the season as a result. So, I really shouldn't be bitching.

A maggot fly movie sounds fun.

I hear ya, but I still love watching them. It's cool to see different locations and species. Kinda like ski movies, they are not always groundbreaking but a fun form of escape from time to time.

I am actually planning to do some filming/editing of some of my own fishing, Mushmouth style. I need to try some things to get the hang of it, but maybe we could put something together collectively. We can all send our footage to a maggot who can do some editing.

I'd love to take a crack at the editing - I have iMovie and get a kick out of the editing part.

Anyone else interested in a project like this?

This idea is excellent and could result in a really great documentary. I don't know of anywhere else something like this process is/has been happening and a video documentary of it would be very unique and I'd love to help how I can.

What I can offer is a pretty powerful computer created purely for video editing with Sony Vegas Pro 9C. 72, it sounds like you're also interested in working on your editing skills and there may be more who want to put there stamp on this project so we could always figure something out.

Other issues we'd have to figure out would be making sure most footage captured is of similar quality. A traveling maggot cam might be an option and split among the participants we could probably do ok.

File sharing could be done online, etc, etc, etc.

We should really work this out, it would be a great memory for all of us.

I have nothing to offer in terms of quality equipment or editing skills but I do have a few exceptional trips planned for 2010 that should make for some great footage. How do we make this happen??

I don't have much to offer in the way of equipment. My editing skills are limited to basic Mac stuff. I'll fish though.

Without discussing details of "how" it it may come to pass, the tools needed to make good footage, IMHO, are a camera and a tripod...or a camera and a friend who's not strung out and even then a tripod is still preferred.

Post editing can make up for a lot of other issues, but if we could send a camera around the country we could do something pretty cool. Depending on maggot means and desires, we could probably accomplish this internally (without sponsors).

Here's a scenario:

1) We purchase a maggot HD camera, or universally determined superior item. (for reference, I use a Sony HD SR-11. it cost me about $800 last year). For a project like this, I'd kick in a fair amount for a similar cam to get things going...so long as no one tells the Mrs.
2) Retain its box for shipping purposes.
3) I know that tripod mounts tend to be universal so those with tripods could utilize.
4) Unique maggot cams...if you've got other methods for shooting outside of a main HD, or better, cam (underwater POV, kites, balloons, strap-to-a-bluefish cams) it can be incorporated.
5) We send Maria (or if broken, her and her replacement), cam and journal around the country (world) and each user records and uploads their content to a central file storage location, then sends all items on to the next user.

We could record journal entries both written and A/V, and include entries from the past.

This could be a really neat project...

By the way, I will be upgrading to the newest iMovie soon and I would also be able to make DVD's in iDVD on the Mac.
