Thats such a worthless site, I mean really why would ANYONE want to know where all the areas that closed down are. I mean since you CAN'T ski there because there's no grooming, theres just all this snow lying around with the trees, underbrush, and rocks cleared away There's no way the skiing can be any good there

Never mind lost areas, how about this new Rte 7 extension. I'm all for that. Although I will miss Bennington, cough, cough.

Look at some of those old areas and think of the BC possibilities. There's an area in there that is about 20 minutes from where you live that the locals have been keeping the upper 2/3 clear for years and the skiing and biking is awesome. I have been there skiing twice and riding once and would never have known about it if not for that website. One day this winter we should meet there and you can show me just how worthless the info was after a few runs of knee deep.
Aldo, you should come with us. There are some great birch glades that feel just like skiing at the 'boat.

Yeah I'm interested to see how much time it cuts off from Troy, might make Magic an easier destination. I always thought it was amusing how I could make it to Rutland in 2.5 hours but getting to Manchester took almost 2 hours.

I will miss the Bennington Bagel Co. they had some good breakfast sandwiches

I took RT 297 last weekend and I'd say it saves at least 20 minutes on a good day - more on the bad traffic days.

It cuts out all of Bennington and connects directly with Rt 7 - and it's a highway.

I'll miss the loop up by the Monument, you could jump a 1/4 mile of traffic going off there and down past the CC. But that single lane road was slow between Hoosick and Bennington. I had no idea they were so close to finishing it all of these years.

Taconic Trails? Bring it. Laser took some good shots of that place late last spring. Although my wife's cousin who lives right over the Vt border there somewhere keeps telling me we'll use his sled for laps on the Thunderbolt. See, I'm a soft cube guy...

Yeah man! That's the place. If we can get a couple of sleds it's even better. The parking lot there is the access to the Taconic Crest Snowmobile Trail network. Most decent sleds should be able to pull 2 people up the road and we can do laps all day. The problem with Thunderbolt is it gets skied out pretty quickly after a good storm. This place holds up longer and the snowmobile trail accesses another old ski area just a bit south of Petersburg Pass that has a really nice north facing pitch that's smooth grass so it doesn't need much cover at all.

I usually hike Greylock a few times each winter but would love a ride. I'd be more than happy to provide red, white and blues (bud cans) for all sled drivers - cause all good slednecks love beer!

there are two places in southern VT that i had wanted to check out but there was never enough snow when i was in the area. one of them is like 20 min east of wilmington on 9, hogsback, and the other is about 20 min west of wilmington on 9, not sure of name, there are a couple high country snowmobile ops up there though. anyone checked them out yet?

That's like sled nirvana up there. Also snows more than average up on that plateau. Check that Nelsap site for Hogsback, and maybe Maple?

I'd be down for some Taconic Trails action, but I really think sleds might be a bit overkill. Skinning it really isn't that much work and you can lap it all day. Plus for some reason that area accumulates and holds snow amazingly well as compared to the rest of the surrounding area. Crashnburned and I were up there in late March and the coverage was still pretty good.

Sleds would be AWESOME over at Greylock. I have done a bunch of scouting over there and theres some REALLY good stuff that should be hit should we get the snow this year and sleds would make it so nice. Theres also another really nice spot in that general area that looks like it'd be even better then Taconic trails or the Thunderbolt but I'm not gonna divulge that information until I actually get a couple of runs on it

If I'm not mistaken there are a bunch of good places along Rt 9 like powerlines and such

I can't stop thinking about this bypass. ( I should really get a life ) So, speaking of the Albany Troy Bennington shuffle, does anyone actually stop at the Man of Kent? That place is always packed.

I grew up skiing at Black Mt. in Jackson NH. I knew Jackson was steep in skiing history but I had no idea that there were that many ski areas there. I’m not sure how Black is doing these days but I hope it doesn’t end up on this site any time soon.
