    Salomon 914 Lab ZZ's

Bought a pair of these not knowing they were the ZZ model. Curious if they can be mounted directly to the ski without the "race plate" between?
Will they funtion as well as the regular 914 Labs? I can return them.
    Any insights appreciated.

an answer I got when i asked the same question and what seems like the logical response as with most bindings.

"yeah, you can mount them without the riser. However, you will have to address the length of the screws as they might be too long.

you can grind down the length, or see if you shop has some shorter lengths."

if they have plates you can take those off, but the metal strip that connects the heel and toe of the bindings must be used.

    oh yeah, [ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141890"]SEARCH JONG[/ame]

p.s. i searched for zz lab in case you were wondering.
Perhaps you'd be more comfortable on epicski or Paula's Ski Lovers, AltaNancy.

I am willing to bet that if you searched you will find a few threads on this and at least one really good one that will give you your answer. So Search JONG!

Like dyno said, you need the metal strip in the middle. It is responsible for the forward pressure. Without it, you turn it into a biometric toe marker, prereleasing at any given time.

Thanks for the input. Apparently I don't fully understand the search function. I could not duplicate the results you came up with, but I appreciate the effort. I did try a search first and came up with zero.
Anyway, didn't take long to see that the metal bar was required. I was primarily concerned about any negative aspects to this binding vs. the non ZZ model. If they had a history of problems I would return 'em.

The only problem I see with the ZZ setup is finding a shop willing to mount them to a ski without the ZZ race plate. Apparently, it's a bit of a hassle.
