    Flylow pants

I am looking at buying the Magnum pant by Flylow but can't find many reviews on them. Opinions?

Pretty much anything from FlyLow is great. The DK pant is a little heavy for hiking but it's great for lift served

I use my Chemical pants for everything and am a happy fella with them. I know a couple other guys that like them too. Not sure about the Magnum though.

I use the Flylow Dropkick pant for touring most of the time. I agree with mtnjam that it is a little heavy, but work perfect for me when I have both zips flowing. The Magnum has replaced the DK this year and the material in the Magnum is lighter than the DK. Other than that they are similar. Huge outer leg vents that run from just below your knee to your hip. Vents on the inside of the leg about half the size. Reinforced inside the ankles and in the knees.

So far the construction has been pretty bomber and I've been very pleased. As I said, coudl be a little lighter, but as the magnum is, problem should be solved.

I'm wearing them right now and they smell like I've had them on for ten years.

I respect the way they carry my man smell.

Actually based on these pants and the poofy jacket I've got, I'd be pretty confident buying anything from them.

A few flylow reviews in this thread...I know it's not what you were looking for, but I'm sure the comments on the quality of construction are valid.

    my chemical pant review quoted...

So I've got a dozen or so days on these and I feel I can offer an initial review.

    FIT:
I have 34-36 inch hips (not a big gut, my waist is 32-33 but have a really wide hip structure) with a 34 inch inseam. Because of my wide hips and long legs I find it difficult to get pants that fit properly.

I generally get into the large size in most brands for the hips, but the legs are often too short.

I got the flylows online and ordered the XL so that I knew I would get the length I need.

The waist/hips are a big big on me (the velcro is about in the middle of the range and they drop to a nice hip fit, If I want more powder protection I can cinch the velcro adjustment strap to almost the tightest setting and the pants stay riding high), but the length is pretty much perfect (I could maybe use an extra inch, but compared to what I'm used to this fit is really good). They have a fairly square cut, kind of like the North Face or some Burton gear, and also Siver, if anyone remembers that brand.

They are a bit baggy, but not park rat steezy. More like senior sceenster steezy. They move really well and I don't notice the thicker than normal material when I'm skiing. The pants move really well and don't bind or pack up anywhere.

    MATERIAL:
The material is bomber. I can see the additional knee material being really good for telewankers. There have been some reviews that talk about the knee material picking up water; I have not experienced this problem, but I'm a skier not a tele.

The rest of the material is thick but breathes well, and is waterproof enough for the -2C wet pow days I've had at Revy and KHMR. I was initially concerned about the breathing/waterproof ratings as I've generally gone with 20,000 suff, but these are great so far. Time will tell as far as how the breathability and waterproofing hold up.

They have ~9" junk vents on the inside of the thigh and have a hudge vent on the outside of the thighs, so despite their thick material, I think touring would be fine in them, as far as being able to dump heat quicky.

The fit and finish are good. The zippers are sealed and feel burly.

    SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS:
There are a few things that I don't like about these:

-Venting: They have a great aray of venting options, but no mesh to stop snow from entering the pants. When you open the vents, you expose your inner layer which can get wet quickly and easily. Basically, you can use the vents for the climb up or on the chair, but if you use them while skiing and crash or are in deep snow, you'll get snow in your pants. These pants would benifit greatly from mesh to keep the pow out.

-Pockets: pockets are good and large, 2 front, 2 back. These would benifit from a zipper-sealed thigh/cargo pocket or two. I don't generally use back pockets at the resort; I don't like siiting on things while on the chair or crashing on hard objects. The front pockets are good, but at the bend in your hip/thigh; if you store stuff in these it can interfere with flexsion at the hips and cause minor binding in the pants. One or two well placed and zippered cargo pockets would do well on these pants.

yeah, the lack of mesh on the vents was what deterred me from getting them...that and the fact that the articulated knees don't fit on/over my knees. every size i've tried the articulation is about an inch below my knees, which makes the pants ride funny.

i ended up with Saga pants this season and other than some annoying pilling/fuzzing in the thigh area they have been great. 20,000 water and wind proof, venting (with mesh) on both the inner thigh and outer thigh, which should come in handy this spring/summer for touring. and they are super light, but still warm.
