Thumbs up The Life of Pi. By Martell Yann.

Some people have found it to be a spiritual book, I just thought it was very interesting.

The story is about a kid who's family runs a zoo in India, and has decided to move to Canada and sell off the remaining animals to zoos in the states, and are traveling on a large freighter with them, when the ship sinks.
It's a pretty amazing story of animal behavior and human as well. Brutally honest and really some terrific twists and turns. A good read.

it was a nice sorta fairytale book. i definitely think that it could have been a little longer and perhaps martell could have omitted the last chapter to retain the mood of the book. i agree that i find it less about spirituality and religious overlaps and more about just being a fun and fluid read.

There was some discussion of that book here.

    The last chapter is essential.

SaAaH (and I think liking the book purely for the story and the writing proves the point),

Nifty. I searched before I posted but with the search being four letters or less on all the words it wasn't much good.

Might have to check out the author a little further, read some more of his stuff, as mentioned a nice flow to it.

Heard something yesterday, or maybe it was in the book, I can't recall.

"God is the imaginary friend of grown-ups"

    I liked that.

I have the book which one of my best friends told me I MUST read, which is rare for him. I got about 1/4 the way through and left it. I need to go back and finish it.

    So can the animals talk?

I've looked at the book a couple times at the store, but the whole premise just seemes a little too goofy.

    about 150 pages in......

Good read so far, a lot of really differnt interesting aspects to it.

I was flipping through the end of the book and saw there was a "readers guide" or something, and it poses a few pretty interesting questions. One that really got me was that Martel said chapters 21 and 22 are "the core of the novel" despite their (short) length. Chew on that....
