    Woo! First published skiing photos!

Nothing exceptionally gnar, and not in a ski magazine, but I am stoked nonetheless. The images are from a ski jumping competition in Brattleboro, Vt. from last March, and two were published in the Jan/Feb issue of Yankee Magazine - a New England lifestyle and culture magazine.

I shot the event purely because I thought it would be rad to witness, and it turned out to be one of the most spectacular things I have photographed to date. It's the only 90m jump in New England, and some of the athletes were sticking 100m jumps on competition day. TV and photographs don't do this sport justice, it's just totally mind-blowing, and should definitely be on every skiers list of things to see once in their life.

If you're in New England, the issue is on news-stands for the next few weeks. There is a fantastic landscape series in there as well that is worth checking out.

If you were shooting for personal enjoyment and not on-assignment, how did that magazine pick up your shots?

    Oh, and congrats!

I put together a small gallery of favorites after the event, and sent it to a couple photo editors of New England magazines that I thought might be interested. I wouldn't normally do that, but I knew I had some unique images.

A few responded, saying they would be in touch if they were interested. I thought they were just being nice, but 8 months later (November) one of the editors called me up and said they wanted to license/publish two of the images.

It was definitely a learning experience, and made me appreciate how hard people like Gunder and Grizz work to sell and promote their self-funded work.
