    Jib Horseshit!!

    What kinda horseshit is this?
    http://snowboardermag.com/columns/kfive/

Disclaimer: Okay, okay...I know it is snowboarding and will probably receive a bunch of shit from the skiers on this board.

So, I snowboard, but never do I ride like this. What is wrong with people today?? Whatever happened to freeriding and hitting big lines?? I hit the park whenever (no powder) but I NEVER sit around in front of kickers or rails. I just ride right through it.

Snowboarding and skiing should happen in LONG runs with LONG lines, not 50 ft. stretches.

    Anybody get my point here?

uhh...it's Southern California in October...where the heck are they gonna get long runs and long lines.

    This contest isn't a statement....it's just a contest in a parking lot.

They probably had fun and a good time....sounds good to me.

What's wrong with a shop holding a railslide contest in the parking lot during a preseason sale? It's a great way to promote the sport. I think more shops should do stuff like this. You ovbiously can't bring a mountain to the mall, but by holding demos and contests like this you help promote the sport. If only they had a few skiers as well...

[sopabox]Jibbing is saving the sport. Come ski with me for a day in the Pick-a nose hills of PA. I bet after three runs down the ice covered trails, you'll be heading right for the park.[/soapbox]

Got to agree with Plakespear. I think it's cool that they would hold a contest like this.

Just kidding duder. Seriously though, it's not like they had this comp in the middle of the winter at the bottom of Whistler. All they had was a parking lot, some jibs and some fake snow. "Snowboarding is supposed to be...." kind of statements are guaranteed to be retarded. Also, I bet somebody there smoked pot.

HA HA...that's pretty funny. I guess I was misunderstood about this. Sure I agree that parking lot exhibitions to perpetuate the sport are fine, but I think they're silly and strange.

Snowboarding and Skiing should be better than this circus BS that comes to town to promote the coreness of the sport. People see it as a sideshow.

Snowboarding and Skiing is about something different. Everyone on this board knows it and talks about it. Something like a jibfest in a parking lot DOES NOT represent the attitude, emotion and feeling we all get from each respective snowsport on a (powder) day at the mountain.

Some people don't see this aspect of skiing and snowboarding. Some people don't know what it feels like and the unexplanable emotion that goes along with the sport.

You're right duder, skiing isn't about rails at the lodge, but maybe some kids watch the demo, start skiing and find what it's really all about. They may start out at the rail but eventually find the trees. Just kind of a way to introduce people to the sport. It doesn't do the sport justice, but it introduces it to people all the same.
