I recently tore my ACL in my right knee. I was skiing on a glacier in Austria; left my tele skis in the US and decided to try alpine for the first time in about 7 or 8 yrs. It was going great until I hit a rock or something underneath a bunch of powder, which quickly ended my vacation.
Surgery is in a few weeks, so I need to make a decision between patella tendon or a cadaver allograft. My patella tendon is pretty weak from tele skiing, so my doc is a bit weary to use it, but left it up to me. I basically just am a bit freaked out about the possibility of getting a viral disease from the donor tendon. any thoughts?
Also, i've heard scattered remarks about re-tear rates and long-term hold of the tendon when using an allograft. any thoughts?
