If you check out the snowfall history, you'll see 180" in January. It snowed every single day but two.
    Now that rules!
Of course so would them spinning the lifts this weekend!

Depends on how it all pans out, but I'll probably be there, on the side of the road somewhere, with a really warm sleeping bag.

"MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN OFF TO A GREAT START FOR THE 2004/2005 SKI SEASON WITH A FOOT AND A HALF OF FRESH SNOW....NEXT SYSTEM COMING IN AT THE MOMENT COULD BE A EARLY SEASON RECORD BREAKER WITH AN ADDITIONAL 3 TO 4 FEET POSSIBLE OVER THE CREST.....WAX-UM-UP GUYS AND GALS"

I'm seeing Elvis Costello on Friday night at the Viper Room and don't want to miss it, so if I go up it'll be Saturday (or, feeling very industrious, I'll drive up after the show). I'll call on various cellies when I'm there. I'm just stoked that Mammoth will be open and I can go ANY time I want now for the next 9 months -- yeeeeehaaaaa.

In 1997, I was on the mountain on October 30th , that's the earliest I've ever skied. My only concern is that a 4 foot base this early in the season is different than a May 4' base - lots of obstacles out there and lots and lots of wind. I think this storm carries 75 mph winds, don't know where that snow will land or stick - there's another storm on Sunday - I may make Halloween my opening weekend.

glawd have mercy. must find job to facilitate early season mammoth turns....or break down excellent credit rating, rent a car and buy tickets I have no way of paying for.

I just signed up for the Mammoth newsletter and Dump alert...really hoping to be getting multiple Dump alerts..never thought I'd say that. Another cloudy day in SoCal, hopefully this system will bring mo snow to Mammoth and Tahoe and all the good things.

That is very very poor form. Old rock skis, 2x4's, snowlerblades, something...

If your feets were small I have old 198 k2 4's mounted for 298mm boots to lend...

I was really planning on going to the Red Bull Rampage but if this works out, I think we should get going.

I agree... I have been lagging and now I'm paying for it. All planning was based on the Nov 11 opening date. With any luck the shop can mount them up this week. If not, duct tape will do the trick.

descender, you serious about road tripping from SF-Mammy this w/e?? Let me know if you are...if it looks descent (not just some rock-strewn ribbon open, etc) I might hit it too - and I have tons of skis that you could borrow..would have to do a pit stop in Truckee on the way to grab gear, but I got a closet-full-'o-skis....

Damn, I'll be in Colorado this weekend for a wedding but making some turns on Saturday morning. I might be down for some turns next weekend if the Tahoe scene is not kickin'.

basically yeah, in LA now. I moved to Ventura, about 4 blocks from the Pier in the beginning of September. Stoked for some road trips to Mammoth and Tahoe and whatnot. However, that all mostly depends on me getting a job which I'm currently struggling to find. Anyways, brought out my gear on the plane with me so it didn't get destroyed in transit on a UPS truck...plus it was cheaper. Got a money sleeping bag for sleeping on couches/floors/dogbeds/tables or in the car I should have by the end of next week.

SO, I'm stoked the snow is falling and I'm looking forward to making turns with the west coasturz!!

Oh and I found out there's a train that goes from Ventura to Truckee! That is also pretty schweet.

If this officially happens, I am seriously considering it. The drive would be horrible, but skiing in October is too rare to pass up.

I will know more tommorrow but this could very well happen. Where are you located?

Yeah Vinz, we'll definitely make some turns this year.
