With 40" expected by Wed, and 2 feet of snow already, and snowmaking to begin tonight... there's talk.

But I've got work to do this week....
If they really do open this weekend, I will almost certainly be up there on Sunday.
Hmm... Can't go this weekend, but maybe next weekend...
Anyone for spending Halloween in Mammoth?
I'm thinking Halloween weekend...will I be able to make it up, get in some turns and make it back in time to go trick or treating?
PS, though I mostly lurk at this forum, it was really cool meeting some of ya'll at the Soul Purpose screening. I'll have to get more involved here.
I heart this rumor.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Here is their "official" word:
Snow Report - Updated: Oct 18, 2004 11:22 AM
Greetings Skiers and Snowboarders!
A winter storm brought 12" to the Main Lodge overnight and more is in the forecast. Stayed tuned here for updates!
We're looking forward to Opening Day (scheduled for November 11!)

I prefer your rumor to their "official" word.
Shit, shit, shit, shit.
3 pairs of skis and no fucking binders.

Gotta luv El Nino - glad she decided to start early for you guys this year. The one and only time I was at Mammy was the last El Nino year and all I can say is Gawd Damn!!
Screw Brighton around here on Nov. 11 - friggin carving up some manmade. If the storms panout for Mammy as they said, I'm there!!
Slc'ers to mammy?? Bueller???

Just talked to a source at the resort. IF the anticipated snowfalls do happen the next few days, then a weekend opening will become more than a rumour. (They were also surprised to hear the rumour has made it all the way to Canada!)
Enjoy it if it happens!![]()

I just got confirmation from deep inside that indeed, Mammoth is shooting for a Saturday opening. All depends on this system, as Eldo said.
OH YEAH! Lets get the West Coast started!
"Deep Throat" says now, that the chances are almost 100% of a Saturday opening! And me in Fiji for 10 days; it aint fair!![]()
Gave up on the bottle, give me the lobotomy.
Here's what Sheebz posted over at mm.com :
Just spoke to a head person with the gondola crew. Here is skinny from sources such as ski patrol, lift and gondola maintenance and someone who frequents the top of the mountain and just checked in with a report. The report as of 4:00 pm from the top of the hill is 30" solid wet knarly base snow. Broadway is getting packed by cats today. Gondola 1 and 2 are ready as far as maintenance but they have not completed the annual cleaning inside and out. This annual gondi wash is necessary so that workers can note any oil or grease leaks which may come up throughout the season. Chair 1 is reported to not have their maintenance completed but they are working on that. The last bit of information was that if the hill opens later this week or this weekend, chairs 2, 3 and 23 will be running. That part didn't sound right to me but I am passing on the information because it came from an extremely credible source. I will be in close touch with this source in the coming days and I will pass on what I can. Please keep in mind that these are all rumors that have not been substantiated but everything is looking really good. Happiness abounds!!!!!!! WHOOoHOoooo!
....I say again...

If chair 23 opens, that'll be some gnarly terrain for this time of year. Sounds like fun and sounds like I gots to get my weekend plans finalized.Originally Posted by yogachik

Waste your time, read my crap, at:

If it happens, who is "in"!
Mrs. Comish is fired up and telling me to bag the surf trip I'm supposed to organize for my B-school. 2-3 foot tiny ass waves in manky water from the 6 months of no rain in So-Cal sounds miserable while the possibility of Ch. 23 sounds amazing!!!
Damn, our house doesn't start till the 1st of Nov? Anyone have any floor space for this weekend if it happens?
Cool to see CS, DuctTape, YC etc at the party on Saturday. That fiesta must have been seriously a good offering to Ullr considering that is the night all the madness started! Also good to meet SuPu and put a face to DJSapp.

god damn i wish i wasn't a gimp. go get some mags

Yep, I'm fairly sure they can get a lift or 3 open. The have opened in Oct a few times in the near recent past. I seem to remember hearing about an Oct 8th opening in the early 90's.
I'm betting on Saturday. Yoga you going?

From the "Snowfall History" link in their snow report window. This was also their longest season. They stayed open until 8/13/95! 572.5 inches total snowfall.
Hell yeah! That was my first season living there. I went up for an interview at the shop, they told me that they'd probably bring me up just before Thanksgiving. Three days later they called and said the mountain was open and they needed me right away. That was my introduction to ski bumming.Originally Posted by Vets
If you check out the snowfall history, you'll see 180" in January. It snowed every single day but two.
it's always a good play to go long november binder futures.Originally Posted by Telenater
