    Whistler Condition

What's going on with the upper lifts?
I've been reading that W/B is setting records in snowfall, yet the upper lifts have not been open on either mountain.

I can only hope every lifts are running by the last week of January when I'm there.

Is the mountain going to be partially closed for olympic prep or will upper lifts run this week?

Thinking about booking a last minute flight to Whistler for next Monday-Thursday. Some forecasts indicate epic dump; others not so much with lots of rain. Anyone out there have a better sense of what next week is gonna be like?

Well if you did make it there for that weekend you scored huge. it was something like 70+ cm in 24 hrs, and was amazing to ski.

I was in Whistler in 1996 or so when they had some obscenely huge snowfall - something like 100cm in a couple days. The snow was so thick and wet that you couldn't move on the lower level, and the upper level was all closed.

I wouldn't say 100cm in a couple of days is 'obscenely huge' - as it happens every year, sometimes a few times. I think around the 16-18th (approx) we had something like 130cm in 48 hours.

I gotta say, that my first few years here we had a lot of wet/heavy snow, but the last few seasons it has only happened a handful of times.

    Olympics

I've been going to W/B every year, sometimes 2x/yr, for the past 15 years or so, and I must say that I am still grinning about the last trip/last week of January – powder and sunshine! I am going back in March for an encore. In the mean time, I am doing my best Ullr dance for the upcoming Olympics, and I am hoping you Canadians can reverse the curse and win some gold at home, at least 5!!!!! Hows Cypress shaping up? It’d be so cool to have spectator events on clear cold night overlooking the city light. Now that Intrawest went belly up, whose gonna be in charge of W/B?

    Have a good Olympic, eh!
