frontline: bush & kerry on pbs

if you have been uninformed or most likely ill-informed on the two shleps up to this point, watched all or none of the debates or have had your head up your ass or someone elses the past 3 years and change, it really doesn't matter. just watch the frontline documentary that's been airing on pbs.

    info and listings on:
    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontl...ws/choice2004/

    watch it.

Frontline has a bunch more online for viewing too.

The Drug Wars is excellent, as is The Jesus Factor. Oh, and then there are: American Porn, Bigger than Enron, The Diet Wars, and the list goes on.

Living abroad, I don't get PBS. But, now I do. Thanks ADSL!

Watched this Tuesday night and it was very good. More people should find Jesus in the lobby of a Holiday Inn.

I saw this a few days ago, and I must say it was very good. It was unbiased and did not favor one candidate over another. I would highly recommend watching it, no matter your political persuasion.

I thought the most fascinating thing about it was how consistent both men have been throughout their political careers and their lives.

    from woodwards book:

Now, let's really drill down. The 9/11 attacks happened. Almost by the minute, when after that, how soon after that does Iraq start being discussed, and by whom?

That night, Don Rumsfeld says, "This is an opportunity to strike Iraq, perhaps." And [Paul] Wolfowitz, his deputy, is pushing very aggressively and has even proposed a kind of somewhat crazy enclave strategy of just taking the oil fields in southern Iraq and using that as a base for anti-Saddam military actions or commando operations. All of the discussion of Iraq, it's there, it's serious, but the president and Cheney reject it and adopt very clearly an "Afghanistan first" policy. But it's background music.

Good heavens does that rumsfeld character seem absolutley insane to anyone else?

On the history channel there was an interesting show about pearl harbor. As we all know Japan adopted a "strike them before they strike us" policy. Everyone thinks that pretty evil. They did for good reason, however. While many believe that we were simply focusing our strategy on Germany, we weren't. FDR had put a great deal of effort into strategies on Japan and had built up the Pacific fleet a great deal. They knew that and it's why they attacked.

The program showed Kerry's speach before he voted to give the President the authority to go to war (not for war itself like the Republicans want everyone to believe). The speach contained everything he is saying today about building a true coalition and going to war as a last resort.

One thing I did notice about the program is that when Bush was being discussed almost everyone interviewed talked about the "Bush Machine" or Bush's politcal team and how they were systematically able to bring down his opponents. While Kerry's '96 opponent in the senate campaign said Kerry knowledge of the issue and his ability to argue is what beat him.

not in its entirety (no video during his speech since c-span has the rights) but you can hear it during chapter 8 at around the 8 minute mark.

this also gives some more dimensionality to his vote:
