the point isn't so much it's distance, but the effect that it will have on the small local businesses that have been there longer - i think what the locals fear the most is that their economy will be essentally killed by wal-mart's prices, etc.

I guess the question is do you want to have free enterprise or not? The idea of small, independent businesses sounds great, but unfortunately they tend to charge more for their products and the end result is no one ends up shopping there.

Don't know if you guys have heard, but, i read a story that wal-mart locks their employees in while they work the night shift. One of the employees got trapped under a forklift and couldn't get out of the store. He, of course, has a law suit against wally world right now. Doesn't have anything to do with mexico but just shows ya how well they treat the employees.
