Looks good indeed, Nice work!

Southeast man...
One of the reasons I like Canaan Valley. Their lack of snowmaking and grooming resources means conditions usually suck. But if you hit it on a storm cycle it's never crowded and they leave 75% of the mountain natural snow. Hoping to hit it this weekend fingers crossed
Would love to see a recent Canaan TR - go get the goods!
Snowshoe reporting 100% of terrain open and 130” of snowfall on the season, 60 inches in January, negative single digits in the forecast, love to see a proper winter in full swing. Seems like a few-ish years since they’ve had a “normal” season set up. (Knocks on wood)
The past few weeks have been amazing. The snowstorm yesterday and through the night combined with the 5 degree temp produced a legitimate powder day at Seven Springs. POW shots through the glades and the softest moguls down the Gunnar line. It was glorious.
It's nice to hear that you guys are getting some. Everybody deserves a few good powder days.
Timely as my tiny PA bump, Bear Creek, got 6-8" Saturday, probably first time I've ever done a ~12 hour ski day 8:30-8:30 w/ my ski crazed 11y/o daughter and some friends. Not the best day I've ever had in PA or even this place, but memorable as it's so fleeting around here.
This place just joined the Indy Pass this year and rode the chair w/ a Dad and very young son who flew in from MIAMI!?! I didn't get the backstory, but he skied Shawnee the day before too. I'm all for the mom&pop ski areas, but can't imagine a scenario of flying to PA to ski that doesn't involve some family tie in.

For u PA guys….Elk is in really good shape/ everything open and very good surface conditions.
Everyone around here pretty happy with new ownership…..now if we could just get some damn music playing and a few people/employees smiling a little and actually talking to each other…..might change the culture a bit for the good up there.
Canaan Valley delivered this weekend. It snowed non-stop Sunday and they ended up reporting 12". Monday was a bone-cold powder day but we practically had the place to ourselves. Heard reports of 45 minute lift lines next door at Timberline, but we were having too much fun skiing right on the lift at Canaan to check it out.
Not hating on Timberline either - really appreciate the investments they've put into that place the last several years - but Canaan on a powder day is about as good as it gets in the mid-atlantic imo.
Wish there was a like button
I used to ski there in the mid-late 90s. Is the halfway house still a thing?
^^^Yes…if I ski midweek (snow days)…I park/go there. Weekends, I park in the “tailgate” quad lot….
Yes..new ownership/ an out of town (Washington D.C.) group…but, long time Elk skiers bought it. Kept same management in place…but new owners are letting the guys who’ve been around “do their thing”….so blowing more snow/ opening up more terrain faster, etc.
Still have a lot if work ahead of them (ie. lifts)…..but are off to a good start. Everyone seems happy with the change at the top.
Not sure if it’s the same as owners of Bear Creek?

Interesting thanks for the insights. Was a selfishly hoping it was same owners so I'd get some pass reciprocity, but hearing that Elk will stay mostly the same is the ideal scenario. Been a few years since I've been, but historically got up there a few times per year and is hands down best mountain in PA IMO.
Haven’t skied Canaan in the 20 years I’ve lived WV always had a pass hookup at timberline and pre perfect resorts I kinda enjoyed the shitshow at timberline and how easy it was to work the system. One thing I can say is I’ve had as epic tree skiing powder days in the Cherry bowl that compare to any glades in MT or BC I skied prior to moving to WV.
It’s the places you ride that are special, not you riding there.”
