I got a line on a cheap pair of skins but....
80mm skins, for skis with specs of 122 90 115. The wifes Sally PRs
Should I go with something wider to get a better trim?
OR will the skins perform fine?

Well, from personal experience, skins trimmed to a 73mm ski don't work for a 90mm ski. There's probably a ton of factors involved, so you won't truly know until you try it out. However, it sucks when your skis slip-especially with Freerides.
Speaking of which, is this "line" open to selling another pair of 120mm skins?![]()
A lot of people earn their turns. Some just get bigger checks.
How much for the $120 skins? What brand? Type of tail clip?
As for the topic at hand, DON'T BUY SKINS THAT ARE CHEAP IF THEY DON'T FIT LIKE A GLOVE. You'll be glad you spent the extra dough later when you're in a steep uphill track. If you do go the cheap route, well, you'll learn the hard way.

The skins sound a little small for the ski in question. Will they work? Yes. Will they work well when climbing a steep slope? No.

these are nice skins. as for the size, i would size tip and tail then cut down. it sucks to slip on the steeps. after a few slips, you'd pay double or tripple what you already paid jsut to make it stop slipping. if you are only skinning 15-25 degree slopes, then you can get away with the narrow ones.
I use skins trimmed for 112-80-100 skis on 118-88-105 skis and I'm fine 98% of the time. But, the 2% sucks hard enough that I'm shopping for wall-to-wall carpet.

I dont like slipping either
the 80mm are untrimmed accesion skins.
You're best bet is to buy the cheap skins, sell them for a bit of profit, and buy fatter skins that won't slip on you.
I more than likly will buy wider skins. Its for the wife so I thought she could get away with them just following and never breaking trail. I am setting her up with phat luvs and freerides.
120mm yes there is a deal on them but Im in Japan so its a bit far.
when i had my slipping problems on the narrow skins, it was often best for me to do the trail breaking. once it got packed down is when i slid most. so i say get her the thin skins and convince her that she needs to be the one to break trail from now on.![]()
In my dreams I have a woman breaking trails 100% of the time.
Nothing like a nice view infront of you.![]()
She is so tiny man 160cms maybe 105 pounds wet.
She skis well with grace not power.
I will get her a pair of properly fitted thanks for all the help.
Lawnchairs, right? I picked up that last pair of 195's from Evogear this summer. Currently I have straight 75mm skins, so I'm in the market too. I think I am going to order some 120's and trim 'em down. The 75's work on my Dragons and Concepts just fine for moderate uphills, so I'll probably keep 'em around for late season and summer skiing. I'm not even going to try 'em on the lawnchairs.Originally Posted by homerjay
