    Mammoth Opening Day

    From their web site:
Mammoth opens for the 2004/05 season in just 29 days on November 11, 2004!

My only advice is to stay faaaaaar away from soccer fields.

So what's usually running on openning day? I seem to remember it being a trek for desperate skiiers in years past. And before you ask; yes, I am a desperate man.

If my toe has recovered sufficiently, I'll be there.

    Toe jams suck....

Its usually Ch 1 and Broadway. If lucky, Stump Alley and Ch 2. That's my best guess.

Last year I think they had Broadway Express (1) open. Maybe some other chairs too. There was fresh snow on top of the man made snow, grass, and barely covered rocks to enjoy floating over.
The 11th (Thursday) is a holiday, Veterans' Day. Hopefully you have it off. It is a double holiday for me - it is also my wedding anniversary.

and some seasons you're on a 4 foot base with 6" - 12" fresh. There's still 29 days, lots could happen, weather-wise. I remember a few years ago Mammoth opened on Halloween, two weeks early, after an unusually warm October and it suddenly turned with a monster dump.
I'll be there opening if there's more than just Broadway to ride. I usually go up 2nd weekend, when there's lots to choose from and play with.

I just booked Thanksgiving, anyone up that weekend (I might even have space in my condo)?

edit: it's really looking like I've got an empty condo for tday weekend - my friend's son's tackle football team (he's 10) is in the semi-finals and they play on Thanksgiving in Vegas. So she's screwed out of our ski trip. I think the parents are trying to change this, but...anyone wanna join me in Mammoth?? I have a friend's condo and I'm being charged half the going rate - condo is across from Village gondie, behind Nevados.

Hey Telenater, what did you do to your toe?
Mine's currently jacked too.....methinks me tore something in there. I'm trying to stay off of it but it's pretty tough to do so. Here's to hoping toes will be pain-free in a month!

Yogachic, I'm actually thinking on this one. This sounds good. Very good.....however, Thanksgiving is usually a time to spend with family. Ugh....I don't know. I'm thinking. I'll let you know!!! You're rad for making such a knockout offer.

Thanks for the offer on TDay, but I'm stuck doing fam stuff. 2nd weekend sounds possible though... Hell, if theres more than the Broadway gaper slalom I will be up there sooner.

Opening weekend... When the time comes, I'll almost certainly be game!

Also - Tday weekend.... I gotta be in L.A. for the Thursday. I wonder if I can con my family into thinking that I need to get back up to Norcal that weekend for some reason, and just take a long, scenic route back up there with a, ehem... short little stop over at Mammoth.... I sort of doubt it, though...

Opening Weekend: Depends on conditions. Driving an hour or two to ski the "Ribbon of Death" is usually worthwhile. Driving 5 hours and spending $100 on lodging to ski Broadway isn't usually worth it.

Thanksgiving: Mrs AntiSkier (don't tell her I call her this) have been talking about going somewhere to ski for turkey day. Mammoth and Tahoe are both on the list, so we might consider sharing a condo. Hmmmm.

    Good point, stay home.

I've done it a few times, and it's never been that great. It ain't bad if you have a pass and a free place to stay, but it ain't that great either. Sure, it's skiing, but barely.
