Funny that the following day, they were still concerned with the freshman conviction, but not what they found the night before.
Yep, the attitude up here is, smoke 'em if you got 'em. But let's keep those drunk Americans outa here, we already have enough of our own.

On the other hand, the U.S. seemingly has no problems with convicted Canadian drunks, but can ban you for five years for even admitting to having smoked pot.

I guess it is called "the war on drugs" and not the war on Rye whisky.

I don't think that "magic machine" even exists. Armchair and I were crossing over into B.C. and the dude took our licenses in to "'scan" them. He came back and said they both tested positive for drugs. Well, Armchair doesn't do drugs. I think they just want you to break down and confess.

I've told the story before, but not for a while, so some may have missed it: After getting our ID's "scanned" and having the car ripped apart, they finally let us cross. About a mile up the road we come to a crossroads and there are signs to different towns but none we'd heard of, and we didn't have a map.

So we turned around and went back to the border to ask for directions. When the guy came out of the booth I climbed out of the car and said, "I couldn't stand the guilty conscience, I came back to confess." You should have seen the look on the guy's face, it was fucking priceless.

I (and a table full of maggots) got a live recounting of that story from Armchair during my recent NYC visit. Good stuff. Ballsy, though.

SaAaH (and often been tempted to laugh and peel out of the border crossing once I've been given the green go-ahead),
