So ... When's the friggin' bottom gonna drop out?

3 years ago it took all the way until Turkey Day
2 years ago it happened right about now
last year it happened on Halloween

Please Ullr tell me when are you planning on coming to town this year to stay.

I am tired of all these so called "perfect" days of not a cloud in the sky, 70 degree sunshine. I am tired of the fall colors. I am tired of pre-season training. I am tired of bike, climbing, trail running, hunting, fishing, whatever is not winter stoke. I am ready to feel the bottom drop out on the thermometer and bring in a big, phat cold front and a jet stream outta the NW dumping some of that smelly Great Salt Lake on Alta. I am ready to see everything pasted in the most beautiful color of all WHITE!!

Please come soon; I can't take it anymore!!!

I bet you were the kid that found your parents' hiding place for your Christmas presents too, right?

Amen to your prayer. I'd bet that you have a much shorter wait than I.

..so when's the friggin' bottom going to drop out"?

Soon as Greenspan mentions raising interest-rates again, or mentions anything for that matter.......

my thoughts exactly Xover. 2 months from today at this time I'll be wrapping up my sencond day of skiing in Ootah. Every day I check the Alta webcams, hoping that one day they'll be white, but alas there isn't. As long as a base gets put down between now and say Thanksgiving and it dumps while I'm out there, I'm stoked. I wouldn't mind never seeing anything but clouds and snow for the 8 days I'm there. [antijinx]

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The thought of that trip and hopefully getting to ski some deep, deep Wasatch fluff is the only thing that keeps me ticking over the days of classes. Every day in the weight room and on the track when my lungs and legs are screaming at me to just rest, I think of arcing fat, fast turns at Alta, or in the Cirque at Snowbird, or at the Basin and I keep going. God willing, conditions will be epic for the Mini and while I'm there.

I'm with you man. After returning from Moab, i thought i was just gonna keep on riding the mtn bike, but after stinking up the trail yesterday, i have lost the mtn bike motivation.

Yep, I got the winter blues too. Short sleeve shirts are pissing me off, I am ready for long johns!!

One nice thing this morning on the way to work:

Driving my new Subaru with its handy dandy Outside Temp button, I had it on the whole time from Odgen to Logan.

    Ogden at 7am: 56 deg.
    Brigham at 7:30: 52 deg.
Middle of Sardine Canyon (leaves are gone pretty much!!), 7:45 ish, 34 degrees
Enter Cache Valley 7:50ish: 38 degrees
Got to work in North Logan: Still 38 around 8:10 ish.

Still anxiously awaiting to see 32 or below on that damn temp gauge!!!!

Bottom drops out on Sunday up here. 23C (70F something) in Calgary today. Flurries and near zero on Sunday. B'low freezing next week in the city, snow in the mountains.

We'll try and send any leftovers further south to start building a base in Utah for the mini. Hard to believe but 2 months from today at this time I'll be starting my second day of apres skiing in Ootah. The thought of that trip and hopefully getting drunk and sampling some deep, deep Wasatch fluff is the only thing that keeps me ticking over the days. Every day in my local bar when my liver is screaming at me to just rest, I think of cold beers and hot women at the bar in Alta, or Snowbird, or at the Basin and I keep going. God willing, the partying will be epic for the Mini while I'm there.

Oh, and also hoping for good snow and some decent turns.

I'm surprised I'm saying this, but I don't want it to snow just yet. Have had a ton of fun on the bike the past couple weeks and just don't want it to end yet.

    I'm fine with mid-late November.

its bad..........i'm starting to miss that one crappy, overly hot, non-pow, non-steep, mush-sludge, slower than bush's thought-speech-coordination, with the volcanic-ash-rock-dirt-heel-piece-wrecking hike out the bottom-run per day of the summer.

You know its getting close when you start hearing anger or in his case passion in xover's voice begging the snow gods to produce. Bring on winter I say!

Why don't you search out winter? the LaSals looked good from afar. i heard our neighbor to the east is skiing. I'm still trying to play in this gorgeous weather....and not thinking about how cold its going to be here in a few months.

Patience my friend. Breathe. relax. and enjoy the moment!

now..who's up for slot canyons in november?

For the past ohhhh 6 years I've been 100X as anxious as Xover is right now by about September 1st.

This year, like Frizzo I'm lovin the biking! I used to get PISSED when I'd see people biking after there was snow on the ground. But I gotta try my hand at some more stunts before they're all buried in snow

I'm not saying I'm not stoked for winter...I'll be ready to rip as soon as the flakes fall. But for now I'm just loving the mountains, no matter what season they're in.

[this post is actually a ploy to turn the jetstream south and make it DUMP next week, hehe]

I wasted 20 mins or so today combing the snowfall total/history logs on squaw and alpine's sites, trying to recall the first dumps of the last few seasons, when they came, what day was the first "good" day of ea. of those previous seasons, then averaging those out going back 5 or so years, and then trying to guestemiate what, roughly, that will equate to for this year....

and my efforts have yielded December 7th as the first "epic" day of the Tahoe season (not opening)....

    I need to get a life.....Please let is snow...soon....

I've already seen it a few times in the last couple weeks. It was 39 when I just got home and they are making ice at the oly park for the track as we type.
