** New Shipping Regulations to the US
New Homeland Security regulations require that all shipments entering the United States be marked with the receiver's SSN. Thank you for your understanding.

WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!??! YES I'D LIKE TO HAVE MY SSN RIGHT ON THE PACKAGE SO THAT ITS AVAILIBLE FOR PEOPLE TO STEAL AND THE HOMELAND SECURITY NAZIS CAN TRACK WHAT I'M BUYING!!!!!

Now in all seriousness WHEN did this happen and how quickly can I type this post while finding the info on how to contact my senators and representitive to find out what the hell they were doing while this went through!

This should be easy to get around. Just have it shipped to a company. You know like:

    Haliburton Inc.

    oh wait...I mean...

    Supercow Inc.

? That's odd, I just bought bindings from Canada and didn't have this problem. Well, then again, Canada isn't a real country anyway

You could always use a dead relative's ssn, or just type at random. 123-45-6789 might work as well.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I can't imagine that this is actually true. Between your Name, Address, and SSN, the needed info for successfull identity theft just got handed to people on a silver platter.

After further investigation... What he said. ^

Apparently this is not a new law, but it is being enforced. Basically, if you order more that $2k worth of stuff from overseas and you can't ship it to a buisness, you're giving your SSN.

Yeah, I looked through the TSA and Homeland Security pages (and had a creepy feeling that I was being watched the whole time) and I could find no reference to any new policy.

Someone should tell G3, that could cost them some business.

Why don't you just make up a business name and put your home address down?

That is really not the problem. You need the Tax ID number of your company to match customs records and if they don't match, I have seen it take up to 4 months to get (for work a fish measuring board with wireless access to a handheld PC) and it was for DEMO and even said will be shipped back to NZ in less than 30 days. The SSN needs to match your name and address, on file in Customs database.

You may end up ordering skis (or whatever) that will be last years model by the time you get them if you make stuff up.

Use a broker if more than $2000, it will save you so many headaches and cost just a few bucks.

If under $2000, well no problem:

Because many foreign merchants are aware that the U.S. Customs requires an identification number for the ulitimate importer, they will often request the purchaser's social security number to include on export documents that the broker will subsequently rely on to prepare the Customs entry. If you do not want to give your SSN, AND your purchase is for personal use and is under $2000, you can advise the exporter that U.S. regulations will allow the broker to substitute their own EIN for yours. Likewise, if a broker contacts you asking for your SSN, you should determine if they are filing a formal or informal entry. If they are filing an informal entry, you may ask them to use their EIN.

    I love this part:

Goods are usually cleared informally when they are for personal use and not in commercial quantities. There are no guarantees that an entry will be cleared informally, so brokers find it helpful to have the ultimate importer's identification number just in case.

Probably a violation of federal law, punishable by prison term or fine or both.
