It was two months straight of violating every rule there was just to be rebellious that got him fired. That and a personal rivalry with someone you want to have on your side and not the other way around. Yelling to the whole dining room to find out who ordered an omlet then dropping it on the floor like a retard will defenitely not get you fired at Alta. As long as its an isolated incident.

EDIT: any idea of what they'd be looking for? like do i want to be advanced, or expert skiier? any idea what jobs are generally in abundance? shouldi try to empahasize my minimal cooking experience?

ADDED: i am filling out an alta app. i just want some feedback first.
    Yo,

I can tell you for openings at the Rustler Lodge at Alta, because I'm a server there. I know that there are spots open for dining room and kitchen. You don't need a lot of expeirence. I think they are starting to fill for the rest of of the Lodge but I know there are good amount of dining room and kitchen spots open. GMD has the best emp rooms, but the rustler is a pricey lodge so you can make a little bit more than the others.

    Here are some alta lodge websites;
    rustlerlodge.com
    altalodge.com
    skigmd.com
    altaperuvianlodge.com

    Good luck man,

    Todd

OH man, a pow virgin... leave now, run west until the snow hits your waist then stop, Find a hill, and let yourself go. First thing you will do is fall on your face. Get up, repeat, until all of a sudden you figure it out, then my friend life will start. You will float out of the powder, and dive back in with every turn, sucking in air and snow, burning your lungs until they feel like they will explode. Then all of a sudden it all makes sense, this is what life is all about. You will be free, free like a morman smoking pot.

Or at least thats what it was like for me...

I feel sorry for you. Tell me how much it sucks working a lunch shift on at the Hustler on a pow day.

Either way, whoever you work for at the top of LCC, they definitely get their money's worth out of you, and then some.

Are you kidding me? Maybe my boss liked me so much, I got only scheduled 3 mournings 'til 9:45ish and 5 nights a week, having every day I wanted to go skiing. Most emps who do work lunch just do a day a week and the rest mournings/nights.

My girlfriend in Vermont dumped me in August of '02 freeing me to move out west. I have no family here, they are all in New England (Go Sox & Pats!). I moved out here blindly, but if you live up in Alta you get to people here pretty fast at all the lodges. The cool thing about Alta is all the LDS moron are not so highly enforced to a point, just enough so all the drinkers stay happy. I've got some friends at Snowpine Lodge, GMD Lodge and Alta Lodge.

Just do it, because New Englanders are a high percentage in Alta. You'll kick yourself in the ass if you don't do it.

"your friends are already there" - I love that quote. It's so fucking true.

Even my conservative preppy little wife went all by her lonesome and winged it - it's all good. Alta? Yeah, sweet choice - there will be no regrets.

    Dishdogs represent.
By far the best job in the canyon, besides maybe a handy at the Rus.
If your only going for a few months and want a shit load of skitime and little responsibility check it out. Did it for two years, one actually next to sage and was probably my best season yet.

Handy is a sweet job, I get awesome ski hours with my waitstaff job though. Though with some good guests handys can make good tips from guests. Just to let everyone know who interested, The Rustler is set on Handys for the season so if that is what you wanna apply for check out the other three lodges in alta.

    so based on prior suggestions...

if i fly out to a mountain, (alta or mammoth specifically), what are the chances of me

finding a part time job, where ill be able to ski, either w/ the mountain or closeby

    finding housing
-what would you reccomend, cheap appartment? or is there any chance of getting mountain housing (i am 18 w/o credit card)

i am a ski bum this winter, ive never felt a pull like this before, i seriusly feel like i have to do this or i'll just fade away and live on the streets with that faded dream in my eyes

Tell you what, since you seem to want to know exactly what will happen to you every step of the way, I'll help you out. Trade with me. My life is pretty much the same every day cause I am a working stiff. This is a very safe way to go, and you will hardly ever have any big surprises. Then, you can plan out your vacations well in advance, and work toward that goal.

    I will take your place.

    Sound good?

Just go with the flow. If you get a job, call them and find out the best way to go about things. When you get there, shut up and listen. Try to figure things out without having to ask everyone a shitload of questions.

I moved to Boulder,CO after college with $200 in the bank, a full tank of gas, no health insurance, no place to live, no job, etc. It was the best move I ever made. Everything works out, given enough time. Enjoy yourself.
I like living where the Ogdens are high enough so that I'm not everyone's worst problem.- YetiMan
