The most disconcerting pest you could possibly have is a skunk. We had one in our basement, and we would be paranoid as all hell when we'd go down there to do laundry. Rousting Mr. Stinky was my greatest fear for a couple weeks in the fall of 2002. That lasted until my certifiably crazy yooper roomate ( I say certifiably crazy because about a year later he literally did go crazy ) shot him with a 12 gauge.
    Looking California, feeling Minnesota.

I think I posted this before but.. had mice problem and wife bought a humane live trap. Metal box about half the size of a shoe box. Checked a day or two later. The inside of the trap like a scene from 28 days or a teen horror film. It looked like the mouse had exploded with only lots of blood and tiny bits of flesh and fur left. Needless to say when I gave to my wife to wash it, it promptly went in the garbage.

Also had a mole problem after I removed 5 yards of clay and replaced with 8 yards of fluffy organic mix. Now this was serious for Mrs as this was her garden. So she bought rat trap which is like a mouse trap but 3-4 times as bit. A mouse trap on fingers hurts , a rat trap can break something. Out in backyard and see that the trap has caught something. I find a chipmunk has almost been cut in half. Dispose of body in back past the fence. Later thinking that wife may be distraught with guilt that her trap killed a cute chipmunk try to break it to her gently. Her response " Oh well , collateral damage". I her war against the moles , innocent chipmunks were just were just unfortunate casualties of war.
Mrs. Dougw- "I can see how one of your relatives could have been killed by an angry mob."
