    McConkey on K2s?

    Link here

    Interesting...

looks like the Spatula is now dead, dead, dead. Unless K2 starts making them.

    Thumbs up

This could herald K2's rebirth of cool, not seen since the Schmidt/Plake/Hattrup days.

I was thinking the same thing....

Whats the deal with getting a pro model ski/ how does being sponsored work? I guess I'm just confused about what Shane will be skiing on this winter. It would definitely seem weird for him to be on the Seth Pistol or PE, so what are the chances he'll have his own K2 ski or prototype for the upcoming season?

The spats are his baby, I'm curious to see if K2 will make him a few one-off reverse sidecut/camber skis or if he has to go back to the old stand bys.

Who knows? But consider Pep Fujas, in it only took him being a sponsored athelete for one season before he got his pro ski. Then look at Shane's legendary stature. Maybe he'll get one right away...who knows.

Kind of what I was thinking too....Shane doesn't really have to prove himself a worthy skier, everyone knows he is at the top of his game. It just wouldn't be right to see him on Seth's ski in next years flicks.

He will probably ride the chief or the pistol for filming or anything public. But I'd bet he skis his spats when he can and K2 starts making them next year.

Yeah, I'll bet he skis the spats until they make him some. i wouldn't be surprised to see him do something like just put some K2 stickers on the top to cover the machete symbols. I've seen this with people painting boots and the like just to satisfy their sponsorship, while still using the gear they like.

Shane doesn't even need the Spats anymore for filming since almost everything in Yearbook was of him Ski-BASEing.

I would love to see K2 pick up the Spatula. Could you imagine Plake and Shane touring together? I agree, this would be awesome news.

    Dear God,

I don't ask for much: get well prayers for Mamma Pu, well wishes for those on the DL, and the ocassional blower pow day. But if you could bring me Spatulas without that heavy top sheet from hell, I would be forever grateful.

I dont think that you will see K2 spats for a while. The spat patent was property of Volant and that is now atomic and they are just shelving the idea for now. But who knows, Shane might have made it part of this contract that K2 must buy it from the squareheads? That would make sence as Atomic is not known as a cool, try something new company and K2 is a bit more.

I sure hope that SOMEONE gets the rights to use it.

congrats to shane too, nice to see him with skis again

Of course K2 will give Shane his own ski. I can see it now, the K2 McMonokonk a reverse sidecut/camber mono-ski.

I think everyone got a little over excited, my self included. But its not a total done deal yet, there are still some finalizations that have to be done. But everything is going in the direction, of shane being on the team.
