Good to see some maggots appreciate good beer. As good as Oberon is, Winter is the best time of years for Bell's. Double Cream, Java, Expedition, Best Brown, Third Coast Old, and Winter White (which is availble in bottles this year!). All those beers are definatley worth the sacrifice of Oberon.

Speaking of rare Bell's I got a few Sparkling Ale's as well as some Trumpter Stout left over from the November Stout's nearly 2 years ago.

However as good as Bell's is I do not think it makes it worth living in Michigan, at least not in the winter. You just gotta stock up on a ton when you go home for christmas or whatever and bring it back with you.

i moved out this way last summer, and didn't want my cellar collection riding in the back of a moving van for 2 weeks in July, so i left all my Bell's vintages at my parent's house. i have a couple Trumpeter's, a Java, a few Rye's, and i think some Expeditions from 2001, 2002, 2003. Although it was kind of out of season i drank my '96 Eccentric Ale (bought in 2000) before i left. all just treats for whenever i visit back home.

you're right though, Bell's doesn't make Michigan worth it alone (not ripping on MI so all you 'ganders chill), but it was a great thing to have while i was spending time there. my buddies and i have a theory as to why Bell's winter beers are so good.... what else are you going to do in K-zoo in the winter?

Actually I've never skied there, but I'm sure there are several on the board who have. I've even got a friend who patrols there.

Had a Sierra Celebration tonight. Got a whole case waiting to damage my liver (thanks Costco). The Anchor brew is super good. I need to pick some up. Especially the big 1.5L bottle. Mmmmm...beer...

I had Moose Drool for the first time last week after the Green Day concert. I don't remember who the brewer is but I thought is was out of Montana. Anyway it was good, but my favorite beer at the moment is Leinenkuegel's Creamy Dark.

Last week was a wonderful week for winter beer releases, the new anchor steam christmas ale came out (amazing as usual), lagunitas brown shugga (9.9% abv, and tasty at that), and anderson valley winter solstice. The problem is, whenever I see a new winter beer in the store, I have to buy it, and some of them are kinda hard on the check book at $9 a sixer. But it's all worth it to keep me warm through the winter.

Dogfish Head WorldWide Stout 2004 is out, Bottleworks has it. This years edition is around 20% ABV. I have also read that Dogfish Head is coming out with a 'micro' malt liquor. Somewhere in the 10%ABV range, and brewed very meticulously with some pretty gormet ingredients. It will only be sold in 40oz of course, and will come in a special screen printed paper bag. Before you slaves to the ghetto get pissed about people making 'micro' malt liquor, just know that it is actually a somewhat common practice in Europe. They have one wicked malt from France called Lucifer that is amazing.

AD... thats a great collection of bottles... I had a similar series of a couple different brews going, but recycled them all before I made the move cross country.

For those of you in the oh/pa/in/mi/ky region, you are lucky enough to be able to get Great Lakes Brewing Companies Christmas Ale, one of the best and truest seasonal ales around.

Damn, given the meds I'm on for knee recovery, I need to stay out of this thread until I can partake in the fun again.
