    Boiling Boots

I did a bunch of searching and only found a couple of vague references. I am looking for specific steps to boiling a pair of boots. I want to use this method because I only need a little width room on either side near the back of my arch. The boot is last years Dynafit Zzeus which I think is PU and not pebax so should hold. If this method doesn't really work I will move on to grinding a little material from the inside. I just know this shell is pretty thin to keep the weight down. Any help is much appreciated.

I say go for it. Throw in some potatoes and carrots and have boot stew. Then you can go see a bootfitter and get boots that fit.

Thanks for the helpful advice I will definitely consider both of those ideas. So anyways, I heard a rep talking about this methos to get a small adjustment out of a boot when punching might be too extreme.

Anybody else had personal experience or knowledge here? Mtnlion?

Fitters don't boil but do soak in hot water. They also have the tools and know-how to properly make the adjustments to the shell once it's warm. There're a few good bootfitters around here. Save yourself the pain of fucking it up and go see one.

    Heat gun

I just used a heat gun on my boots and was surprised on how well it worked. Bought it for like 25 bucks and it only took about a min for the plastic to heat up enough to stretch. I put it on the 1000 degree setting and just kept the gun moving over the area to uniformly distribute the heat. I was able to stretch the toebox with the butt end of a screwdriver.

In your case i bet you could heat up the problem area and maybe put on an extra pair of socks to stretch the shell a little.

I would be careful with the buckle areas tho. maybe use some reflecting tape to keep the heat off the unwanted areas.

    Hope this helps.

I worked in a shop back in college in Killington that had the ability to boil boots but I can't recall it ever being done. Haven't heard of anyone boiling since though. Think the process was boil the shell, remove from water, toss liner back in shell, insert foot, buckle up and let it cool. I'd be careful, could be an expensive mistake, there's probably a reason this isn't really practiced.

heat the shell with hot water (not boiling, but that might be fine too) pad the foot, toe caps, pad any extra bits that poke out.
heat the liner with hair dryer
put foot in liner, put liner in shell, flex a few times, buckle it WAY to tight, wait 15 min and remove.
doesn;t really do much, but can help a bit on a boot with a VERY tight shell fit.
