    Silver Star...........?

I'm sure some of you here have skied at Silver Star at some point. One of my friends has a line on a pretty good post New Years trip there. How is it as far as terrain is concerned? I've never really heard much about it.........

    Thanks.

What's to know? It's a decent sized mountain with a wide variety of terrain. It has a short season but everything should be filled in by New Year's. The front side is mostly intermediate and the backside (Putnum Creak/Powder Gulch) is steep and steeper. Real ski in-ski out too.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Skied there for a week in 95/96. Here's my 2 cents.

Overall it was a good sidetrip into the BC interior to give our livers a break from 2 weeks of Whistler/Blackcomb, but I wouldn't go back there.

Cold. Really fucking cold, which means good light pow.
Here's the trail map. The good shit is on the backside (Powder Gulch chair. Lots o' steeps).
Crowds similar to your typical gapicski clientele = More pow for you.
Nightskiing- you can poach the steeps to skiers right of the top chair and go for stealth missions.
Cheap and easy access to the BC via snowmobiles. Just don't be crashing into treewells and getting you and your 'doo swallowed up.

Out in the middle of Buttfuck, Eastern BC. After two weeks of W/B debauchery the nightlife here sucks. The only way you'll get laid is if you make your buddy lie on his stomach and then paint tits on his back.
Relatively small mountain. You can ski it in like half a day and unless you get a fresh dose of pow each day you'll get bored pretty fast.
Trees are too close together to ski
    Nothing huckable.

(Edit- views and opinions are mine only....if you're travelling with, say, family/kids and you fit the typical gapicski demographic profile then this may be the ideal destination for you)

Hmmmm.....Nightlife is something I hadn't considered.....girlfriend will be coming so getting laid is not an issue.....I'm leary of a lack of variety as far as terrain is concerned......I think we're gonna go ahead and go for it though. It's too good a deal to pass up (the alternative is Vermont). We were talking about heading over to Big White for a couple days too. Keep the beta coming if you have any.

    Thanks again.

Hee hee. Cold? Maybe for wussy Cali skiers, but the Okanagan is the tropics compared to the Canadian Rockies.

Any who... SS is a mid-size resort that can be fun for 3-4 days. Some decent steeps, and mostly populated skiers who stay on the main intermediate and beginner runs. Like most Canadian resorts others than Whistler and Tremblant, it has almost no nightlife. But if you are bringing the party (and poon) with you, then it's not a problem.

For sure check out Big White, since you'll be in the area. Mostly intermediate terrain, but nice tree skiing and usually lots of quality snow (but zero viz), hence the nickname Big Whiteout.

If the trip is a good deal, then I say go for it. Post New year's is a primo time to do a ski trip up here. Empty slopes except for weekends when the locals come out. Tourists don't show up until mid-Feb because they are scared of the cold Canadian weather freezing their pee pees.
