I've skied both. Your wrong. I don't give a crap which exact county in the sprawling noxious devolpment that is the I-70 corridor Vail is in. The only good thing about CO is ice climbing.

I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Ice climbing is much more difficult than skiing Vail.

Summit and I stood on top of the pylon (sorry the camera is tilted)....and hucked a 230 foot rope past the roadway, we ran out of rope....Definitely a world record cliff huck.

Look at follow me's picture of Vails back bowls. This pic was taken on the other side of outer mongolia bowl (East Vail, and sorry the camera is tilted )....Summit and I stood on top of the first cliff and hucked a 230 foot rope over the 2nd cliff, we ran out of rope....Definitely a world record cliff huck, and also notice the flat landing...yes, east vail is lame.

now go ski the holy cross couloir which is very close to Vail.....don't slip! The fall off the 200 footer at the bottom will prolly kill you.

The only good thing about CO is ice climbing.

And the rock climbing.......but that's mostly around boulder.

As a native and lifelong resident of CO i would reccommend Mammoth. The east side sierra mountains are bigger, steeper, and usually have more snow. Good climbing/ski mountaineering and you are not that far from the valley.

Are you actually going to live in Vail? Jezuz no. I've never been to Mammy, but it has to be better than that place. Unless you're a really good bump skier that likes to converse with dentists and lawyers on the lift and fight Eurotrash for a drink at most bars.

i chose vail. it was not an easy decision to make. in the end it came down to convenience. i had to put mammoth on the back burner, but will always have something to look forward to.

blurred-i'm counting on you to introduce me to the bc out there and show me the way to the powder and steeps.

now i just need to find a room to rent. if you know anyone looking for a roomate Nov-April, pleeease let me know (pref. female, but open to anything). i won't have a car, so i'm looking for a place on the bus route btwn east and west vail/intermountain or sandstone...

Jobs are a dime a dozen, housing is the biggest thing. Go to www.vaildaily.com that's the local paper and everyone gets their housing through it. GET ON THE HOUSING THING IMMEDIATELY, sometimes it can be a bitch. I'll definitely introduce you to the crew, and if you've got the equipment/skills, east vail and vail pass. -Brett

as for skiing background...i used to be pretty good. then i quit six years ago and started riding.
as for backcountry experience...not including the eight hour mess we got ourselves into in steamboat last winter, all my bc experience is in the bowls of jackson. i've been borrowing equipment in the past, but looking to buy my own this year.
