    Jason Levinthal revisited...he's the man!

I know there were some issues about Line and Jay on here about skis and Roo. Well I am a firm believer in not making judgements and decisions based on one experience. You may have had a bad experience, I had a good one.

I am the Co-Prez of the UVM Ski and Snowboard Club. Line is right in Burlington and I shot Jay and e-mail to see if he'd run a deal for us. He got right back to me and setup 25% off on all this years new skis and bindings. That amounts to over $100 off most of the skis. Considering Line makes no money...yet, that is huge.

Not only that, but I invited him to our first General meeting. I told him we'd have 200 or so people present and he could rep the new skis. He wasn't sure if he was gonna come but on meeting night he showed up with all the new skis, including the Prophets He stayed the whole time, talked with a ton of students and was an all around super nice guy. Find me another ski or snowboard company owner that would give a college club a killer deal and actually enjoy hanging out.

Just giving props where props are due. Jay is the man!

Excellent. He's there in a shot when it comes time to sell skis. But how about asking him back when/if someone has a warranty issue. Then we'll see what the real story is.

25% off? Wowzers, thats only 25% more then he charges ski shops for his skis! What a fucking humanitarian!! Maybe he'll give you 30% off when the skis break for no reason and he refuses to replace them!! Rock out with your cock out!!!!

Why not let others do the talking for you, and for that matter wait untill there is actually something to talk about--it is getting to the point where this is plain old SPAM.

Seriously--no offence, but you guys are making 50 pair. I understand that this is huge for you and PM Gear, but I dont think it puts you on the same playing field as Line and Jason Leventhal.

I have nothing but love for Splat and PM Gear....I just like to see them save some face. I mean with all the shit that gets sprayed here about these skis...youd think they found the answer to world peace. I know you are stoked, shit I am stoked and I have nothing to do with it...but we gots to keep it real guys.

Yeah, but Levinthal didn't make his skis in a garage and let any hardcore skier (like us) test the prototypes and give their input. Karhu and line share the same factory and many of the same ski designs. I dont understand why line has inserts in their skis and karhu hasn't gone this way too like k2 did with tele norms. This being said, i don't think that you can really compare the two. Line has contributed to skiing and gave back to it, but hasn't really done anything as impressive as PM gear.

hey steep, actually, we had to make more than 50 pair just based on the pre-orders, we bumped it up to 75

manufacturing specifics aside, I don't think Splat was making any further attempt to pimp the skis in this thread,(crashnburn'd was the 3rd party talkin' for us that did that in the subliminal note) but I think that quote of his you pointed out was referring to this comment :

obviously, PM Gear priced bromodels as low as possible to make it affordable for anyone, but more than that, Splat was clearly just admitting to the fact that PM GEAR is all about HANGING out and havin' fun with people on this board. it's not just about selling skis.

SPAM How do you figure. When someone contibutes so much to this community. Involves said community in the R & D of product and so on. I would have to believe that the ongoing sucesses and failures of PM Gear / Bro Models is at least of some interest to many readers here.

See now this is what I am talking about. What has PM Gear REALLY done? For all the talk, they have not delivered-- yet. Also, I think if it was anyone besides these well respected mags we would never take this SPAM, we'd flame it quicker than MAx. How is anyone suposed to respect our opinion on anything if we are ranting and raving about things that havent even been accomplished, and when we are so hipocritical as a whole.

Thinking about this, Im getting hipocritical myself...I think if ANYONE can rant and rave and SPAM, it is the PM Gear crew, because only they know first hand what is going on with the whole process. But we havent seen anything yet except a place to buy em, baby blue graffix, verbal statement that they will rip, a delayed ship date, and a huge message board fanbase/following.

I dont think it matters how much you contribute, its still SPAM. Especially when you do it every little chance you get. Some would also call involving this said community in R & D as free R & D--there are two sides to everything, im not taking them, only pointing them out.

Im just thinking...typing during ads watching football, totally sore, was playing on my friends bouldering wall this weekend and it killed me. I have a new hobby.

edit- you know, what does SPAM stand for? I pretty much pick up that it is shameless self promo...am I wrong?

steep, as a PMgear owner, I do have to agree with you,the proof is definitely going to be in the pudding.

and I'll even go so far as to disagree with Powwrangler's statement, sure it's nice to have that kind of support from our intended customer base, but even I wouldn't really compare us to Line ever.

so let's stop talking about PM Gear in this damn thread about Line.

I've been around Jason a couple of times, certainly not long enough to pass fair judgement, but I will say he is passionate about his ski company and the things they are doing to change skiing. And he will talk to pretty much anyone about them in not just a salesy way.

yea- sorry for the hi-jack, I wasnt trying to talk about PM gear, just how we as a whole are hipocritical when it comes to being super critical on individuals/gear and seem to over look things in regards to PM Gear...I guess I should have gone with how some people who ski Utah or LCC specifically have a superiority complex as to it being the best place to ski, and get really bent out of place about it. Havent seen this in a while...since that line Blurred is going to hit.

    Snowrider,

Good work hooking up the peeps in your club with a ski company based in their town—it is always nice to see people buying local. 25% off is a good deal and in my mind reasonably generous. While freaks that lurk on ski message boards in the summer know that pro form is 50% off retail and whole sale is even less—thus feel the need to criticize—I assume the average kid in your club pays full MSRP for their gear, so a 25% discount is a good deal. I’m sure multiple UVM students will have some new Line skis waiting for them under the Christmas tree.

    Peanut Gallery,

While Line skis aren’t for everyone, the company has a history of innovation. The Dragon was their first ski and, IMO, it took some balls to release a pretty fat (for its time) twin in a 193. When Line unleashed the Dragon, the major companies were being real pussies and weren’t making many fat skis or twins (let alone fat twins). I feel Line’s partnering with Karhu brought Karhu back from the dead. A couple of years ago Karhu went into hibernation and didn't release any skis, now they are making some of the better tele skis on the market. This year they released the Prophet…

    Splat,

We have about 30 days or so until Kirkwood fires up Chair Six, I'm bringing alpine boots and can't wait to test you mad creation.
