    Anyone own this puppy?
I was thinking of picking one up. Need a nice little camera, to stash in the pocket.

I was actually taking a look at this guy yesterday. I think I'd pony up a bit more more for the S940 IS. The viewfinder on the 780 was tiny. So small I wonder when you'd ever use it. The 940 forgoes the viewfinder for a bigger LCD screen. It also is a 28mm equivalent on the wide end and is a 4x zoom as opposed to 3x. It's lens is also a bit faster on the wide end, f/2.8 as opposed to f/3.3 (I think). They both have the same HD video capabilities, same 12.1 megapixels, same all metal body. It's a bit more money ($80 or so I think) but for a slightly better and wider lens I think it's worth the money. I'm seriously considering picking it up for my girlfriend (cause I kinda broke her old camera).

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I will check them both out.

I got one for my girl, and it is great. It automatically picks the proper settings for the photo based on portrait landscape, etc... and automatically adjusts flash output. Compared to the previous P&S we had, this thing is a revelation. Great little camera.

Man your prices in the US are so much better than up here in Canuckistan. The same cameras are $270 and $350 respectively.

Look around. Superstore here in Calgary have the 780 for $186 regular price. I might get one just for the HD video.

Check the Panasonic ZS3, too. Newer camera, I think. $250 or something on froogle (with the right merchant). HD video and 8x optical zoom. Don't own one (yet), but it's on my Christmas list.

Goes wider than either of these Canons. And I *think* you can zoom during taking video.

Just another suggestion. Those HD-video Canon SD series definitely caught my eye, too. I played with the 980 in the store the other day, and other than the semi-PITA wheel setup, looks like a darn fine package.

I think the ZS3 has a 12x zoom, and you can zoom "during taking video," which you can't do with most P&S cameras.
