edit - confirmed that Beaver Creek borders the Holy Cross Wilderness.
Snowmass and Highlands come awfully close to bordering the Maroon bells/Snowmass Wilderness, can't tell from my map, though.

Kirkwood borders the Mokelumne Wilderness area (in the El Dorado NF) and comes really close to a potential expansion of the Mokelumne wilderness and a proposed new wilderness area near Caples lake.

Also, please note if there's any official policy regarding access into either wilderness or NPs from the ski area for ticketed skiers.

We're getting jerked around by Mount Rainier NP in this regard.

Mt Baker policy: open access, but the ski area can restrict re-entry if you leave the boundaries without proper gear.

Ask him what Uwe is thinking. I'll need all the data I can muster by the 18th.

    Buster,

Jackson Hole borders both Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest. This area is your ace in the hole as far as precedents goes, IMO.

To my knowledge, Grand Targhee only borders the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

Mt. Bachelor grooms a "Common Corridor" from the parking lot to the Wilderness, Timberline grooms a climbers trail.

Regarding JH and TNP, that's what I'd thought. But there's MRNP admins here that want to ban skiers that use lifts from the park. So the conclusion is to close the entire are boundary, even accesses to USFS not classified as wilderness.

There's a rumor that he wants to ban skiers entirely, supported by constant harassment that we get when we hike for turns out of Sunrise. One of the rangers even told us that Inter Glacier is designated for climbers only!

If they get their way, it will be an ugly precedent that may affect other ski areas.

The Jedediah Smith Wilderness borders both Grand Teton National Park and the national forests I previously mentioned.

    If that helps, I dunno.

I think that Mammoth might. Lemme go and check me maps...

Yeah, Mammary is flanked north and south by the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness's respectively and I think it touches Muir.

Hang on...looks like June Mtn. abuts Ansel Adams.

I need to get another map...

I can't find the map I'm looking for...anyone know about Bear Valley, off Hwy4?

If you're at Targhee and looking over the back side towards the Grand, there is a basin between you and GTNP. BUT, if you take the gate for Mary's Nipple, you can follow the more-or-less ridge with a LONG and STEEP climb up Table Mountain. Table is smack on the border of GTNP and Targhee Nat Forest. Also, just to the south of Targhee is the Jeddidiah Smith Wilderness Area, but it does not touch boundaries. Keep in mind if you head out that way, you are going to be touring through DEEP snow. Bring your snorkel.

Bear Valley comes really close to the southern border of Mokelumne Wilderness, but getting to the border would require significant elevation loss below the ski area's lowest lift or a lot of traversing to areas that are more accessible from other trailheads.

Buster, what is RMNP citing as justification for closing the area to skiers?. My guess is that they're concerned about liability. This is, however the first, case I've heard of where the Federal land managers chose to close off access to skiers rather than the ski area closing the access.
