Thumbs down Just got retired (broken frame)

Well as some might attest to, its a wonder I haven't done it sooner. With my fun broken deraileur hanger last weekend, I have been trying to hunt down the part. Today I found a shop that had it. Figured I would wash the bike before taking it down get it fixed. Yesterday I did a ride with a friend who was kind enough to lend me his AS-R (yeti), all I had to do was bring my pedals. Well as I was putting the pedals back on my bike, it noticed a nice fuggin crack on the rear triangle. DAMN IT!!!!!

So now my bike is SUPER busted. Oh yeah here is a pic of the crack.

Now I need a new rear triangle, probably close to 3 bills, new rear derailuer hanger, my rear shock is not holding air. Ah the joys of breaking your equiptment. Considering I have to charge my season pass coming up, I really doubt I'll have the cash to get the bike fixed before spring. Time to find something else to do until there is enough snow.

Hopefully things will change around finacially by spring and I'll be able to swing a new bike, which is what i really need anyway.

it was fun while it lasted and at least it didn't break while i was riding it.

I just got my new warrantied Cove Stiffee in the mail last night. I did something similar to your damage. Can you get a crash replacement? Companies are usually pretty good about cutting deals or straight up warranty for stuff like that. It is worth a try, I got my frame out of it (I just didn't get any say in the color).

EDIT: Try to go through your LBS for warranty issues if you know somebody there, companies are nicer to bike shops than to people calling them directly unless you are the original owner and have all of the paperwork handy.

Tap, I don't know what to say, ya freak. (it did make me laugh)

Found my owner's manual, lifetime warranty for the original owner on the frame and fork. I'll be down to the shop tomorrow to see what can be done.

Luckily I have some really cool riding friends and have already gotten multiple offers for frames and bikes to borrow. Its not as bad as I originally thought. Still be without my steed for a while.

I have a Schwinn Moab frame and some parts hanging off of it, it's yours if you want it.

For you, it was never a question of "if" just "when"!!

Can a part like that be welded? Or would it just break again next to the weld?

It is a nice excuss for buying a new freeride next year.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

good news on 2 fronts. Performance kicked some ass got a quick response from Jamis, I am getting a new rear triangle, hopefully by the end of the week, completely warrantied. AND wife agreed to a new bike for me to buy NEXT year. So I'll keep the Jamis for XC, which i am sure will stand for Xcessive Climbing, which i have been known to do upon occaision and get a Freeride bike of some sort.

those of you looking Giant AC1's 2003 for sale at Supergo STORES for $1295 Almost pulled the trigger on that one without even riding it. Also on "the list" yeti ASX. If i get one of those I'll be sure to get a different color than all the cool kids here to be different.
